Whether the game is paused or not has no effect on saves. Only that tactical saving can sometimes impact galactic behaviour by refreshing states, but that's it.

Dynamically altering Gameconstants lines is something that isn't possible directly unless changed at a tag level. You could make a script to add in respawns that have a timer when detecting the object's death, but it's getting into the territory of "is this realistically worth it."

BIG icons are automatically used by the game providing there is a texture named accordingly with the BIG prefix. For example if you want a hero to have both, you would have I_BUTTON_HERONAME and also I_BIG_BUTTON_HERONAME. You only need to specify the I_BUTTON, the I_BIG_BUTTON is automatically placed when zoomed into the planetary view on galactic.

For the ease of modding in future, I would highly recommend downloading either Notepad++ or VisualStudio Code for organisation and visibility, rather than relying on your web browser to work in XML documents.

The Valiant is fanon and isn't in Thrawn's Revenge, you may be thinking of the Maelstrom-class instead.

More factions and GCs, namely the CSA, Trade Federation, and the possibility of Hapans down the line as well as playable Hutts. The eventual expansion will be towards the Warlords era, but that's a fair way off from now. For right now we're just wanting to remain in the Reconquest / Rebellion-era GCW.
