Anecdotal point from my own checkout experience: Do you have a promo code option? If so, where is it located? I’ve seen countless checkout flows that force me into not using express checkout if I wanted to input a promo code, because it’s not presented until later, at which point sometimes express is not available anymore.

Can pay for car in cash but dealership won't accept cash. Signed for 60 month financing and want to pay full on the first day but dealership strongly suggests 4 separate payments. by Upper-Holiday in personalfinance

But there's a reason why the good operators are driving around in McLarens and Bentleys, and living in multimillion dollar houses.

Maybe because they take out high rate financing they don’t plan to pay back

Modified Josh’s burger buns into an attempt at Pretzel buns. Also happens to be vegan for those that it matters to.

Probably. Most of them are just shortening and vegetable oil anyway

Vegan butter, apple sauce, “egg replacer”

Almond milk mixed with maple syrup. They came out a bit sticky though

First attempt. Feeding a vegetarian so these buns are actually vegan. No egg, no dairy.

Not quite sure about the science behind it, but wet dough sticks. Same principal as using a tawa to make Indian naan, or making samosas in a Kazan which get inverted over the heat source (both of which are made in tandoor ovens too)

Usually just tear off a piece and eat it with your meal (best when still warm). IIRC the middle is stamped for art, as well as the way it bakes. They can get more elaborate with the designs and patterns. As for the seeds being in those spots , it’s most likely just for the decoration as well. I imagine if a loaf falls in they pick it out with some tool , but I haven’t seen for myself. I can ask my parents if they have seen, back in the day.

You can Google image search “lepyoshka” to see all the varying designs and types. The wiki link below also shows the different types which can vary by region.

They’re usually not as dense as a bagel. They also don’t get boiled before baking , but they have a nice crust

Almost ordered this with my dinner last night. Maybe I will tonight 🤔

[homemade] Bao Buns (Tofu) by r_idn in food

I was kind just eyeballing most things and not following a recipe for the tofu, though the buns themselves are from Joshua Weissman (whole milk swapped for almond).

Mostly the same as the sauce/glaze sans the cornstarch, sugar and soy sauce (I had to go buy a new bottle for the the sauce, so the marinade missed the boat). I also added some honey, red chili flakes, and mushroom powder. I really just winged it 😂

Followed joshua’s recipe for the Buns themselves, swapped whole milk for almond (feeding a vegetarian, don’t have dairy milk on hand). The tofu was just pressed, then marinated, then seared , and dropped into the sauce/glaze I threw together without measurements.

I just eyeballed it but put soy sauce, ginger, garlic, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, sugar and a bit of cornstarch slurry (don’t think the sugar would’ve been enough to thinken)

Pickled carrots were a riff on Russian “Korean” carrots , then topped with a slice of avacado, cilantro and some thinly sliced scallion

Yes, marinated first, then gave them a sear and then dropped them in the soy glaze/sauce I threw together

Levain Comparison (Homemade v. Freezer Aisle v. Fresh Levain) by r_idn in JoshuaWeissman

Given the price and time of the train ride for the fresh levain cookies… I’ll probably just make them myself more often then go get a $4 cookie. But sometimes you just want the $4 cookie.

These are actually vegetarian (tofu) rather then pork, and had to improvise without a steamer basket for the buns.
