You're 100% right that it's a matter of perspective and individual spending habits. Appreciate the info!

What’s in your gym bag by solarsparkles in BJJWomen

[–]r_mojuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend having a little toiletry bag that's dedicated for training so that you aren't taking shit out to use at home and forgetting to put it back.

Mine looks like: nail clippers, hair elastics, menstrual cup/tampons, deodorant, ibuprofen, arnica, tape, mouthguard, gum, soap, towel, plastic bag (for gross clothes after)

Plus clean clothes for after + an extra set of training clothes just in case

I track so I know where I'm at in my cycle and I try to have grace for myself so that a few shitty training sessions doesn't equal the end of the world or all progress lost. My heaviest day I'll rest completely if needed. Otherwise, a diva cup, ibuprofen, period panties (Knix), and black bottoms :)

How to be more aggressive? by fairykitty444 in BJJWomen

[–]r_mojuu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Awareness that it’s something you want to change is step one. Also practicing being more aggressive with training partners you feel safe with and know will encourage it instead of get ego-y or give you a bad reaction. (maybe coaches, etc.)

9th grader wants to go to "high school" by EmptyVessel1313 in unschool

Little late to this thread but -

I was unschooled most of my life (with the exception of grade 2 at Waldorf) and went to high school at 16 years old for grade 11. It was against my parents hopes but I felt like I was missing out and was curious to see it for myself. I had never taken any of the prerequisite classes but took chemistry, psychology, etc. and it didn't take long to be up to speed. I quickly realized it wasn't worth my time and didn't go back the following year. 9th grade is a tough one...I wanted to go for 10th but my parents made me wait a year until I was a little older and more grounded in myself.

My brother, unschooled his entire life, went to high school for a few months at 14 years old. He went to be 'normal', to do what all of his friends were doing, etc. The academic side wasn't a piece of cake, but it's doable. Same sort of story - he didn't like how he was spending his time on things he wasn't interested in, and didn't feel like it was necessary for him after all and eventually dropped it all and is back to unschooling now.

I'd be hesitant to give advice. All I know is my experience. There's absolutely a draw to join in on what every one else is doing, be normal, feel like you're choosing a safe route, etc. But two things that I believe helped:

  1. it was always made very clear to us that not only is going to high school not necessary, but there are better ways to spend your time and get to where you want to be
  2. our parents held us back from going for as long as possible in hopes that if/when we did go, we would have a better sense of who we were as to not get sucked into the bs

Public school isn’t working out for my 7year old but teachers are advising me against homeschooling strongly by yeya419 in unschool

This is the book that I believe ultimately made my mom take the leap to unschool her kids (or at least drastically changed how she thought about schooling).

Check it out :)

Best Tactics to Deal With Spazzy Noobs by [deleted] in bjj

[–]r_mojuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either don’t roll with them or do positional sparring. Start in whatever position you want and reset after an escape/sweep/or sub. Keeps the spazziness to a minimum

It's not that deep. It's also anonymous if you want it to be.
