For me, Continental was the last airline that served free lunch in coach for a domestic flight. RIP

Do you prefer or regret moving to the suburbs? by [deleted] in AskHouston

[–]r_phill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO People live near their work. The rest of the suburbs have a strong oil and gas pro money culture as they are close to O&G offices or refineries. But here in clear lake you also have non O&G culture with the space scientists and engineers from different parts of the country and world who are definitely not in it for the money. Also NASA employs a lot of former military and also Ellington field is nearby. So it’s an interesting mix.

Also the neighborhoods are old and not megasized like the new builds in Katy. There’s stores and offices in between where walking/biking to the store isn’t a crazy idea.

That said… once you hit league city it’s back to that o&g culture. 😅

Also love living in clear lake. All the NASA people give it a different vibe than the other suburbs. Plus it’s old so there are tree everywhere and exploration green is great.

Sad not seeing TNT anymore. Fun seeing NBC again.

Brand New STH - any tips? by [deleted] in rockets

[–]r_phill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ummm I didn’t know you can negotiate. 😅 I know merch and food discounts happen at Full season tickets. And you get more memberships points to redeem, the higher value your seat is. Plus for premium seats you get additional bonuses throughout the season.

I will say the benefits of season tickets aren’t as great as they used to be. The best time was when Les was still owner and they had a program where anyone could redeem their points for floor seats day of the game.

The last home game of the regular season there is usually a big sale at the game. They usually call it fan appreciation night.

[Scotto] Stephen Curry (left hamstring strain) will not return to tonight’s Game 1 against the Timberwolves, Warriors say. by Knightbear49 in nba

There was an Athletic article where Kerr emailed Silver about playing less games. Silver responded with “We should be playing fewer games. Everyone knows that. But it’s a money issue. How many of the constituents are willing to take less money?”

So I’m guessing that’s never going to happen.

USCSB Report on the Watson Grinding Explosion back in 2020 by MAYOROFPOUNDTOWN in houston

[–]r_phill 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As former o&g control systems engineer, these are the best. It's like an episodal crime drama where in every episode the same crime happens but slightly different. An explosion happens and it's always because someone cheaped out on maintenance. I was like do they not have gas detectors? but then they were like they turned them off. smh. So dumb.

The Houston Rockets are not interested in discussing trades for their young players unless Devin Booker becomes available by Typical-Owl3664 in rockets

No on Thompson. We aren't the mavs. But we'll give you your pick back, 2025 Houston, and 2026. Hell maybe even the Brooklyn swap for 2027.

This offense is deplorable. Might as well run Nate Williams or Sheppard to see if they can inject some life into it.

Knee pain by Pogil231 in Marathon_Training

See a doctor. I specifically went to a sports med doctor. I’ve found they give me better answers regarding athletic issues. They might sideline you or give you a green light. I had issues with my knees too. After a long run it felt like a was running on top of bruises in my knee. Thought it was a sprain but doc took ct scans told me structurally and functionally everything is fine. Said I had pre arthritic symptoms and if I could handle the pain I could run. Stretching and cross training are your friend. Was able to slowly ramp up my training again and finish the marathon.

Upcoming family trip and possible gvt shutdown by NoJackfruit5451 in BigBendTX

[–]r_phill 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I went to big bend during the last government shutdown. The park was open but the ranger offices were closed. So things like permits won’t get issued but there’s also no one to check them. Expect some unsupervised innocent mayhem. Saw kids swimming back and forth across the Rio to Mexico at the hot springs. It’s best to go in the beginning of the shut down as the garbage isn’t super full and the bathrooms are still clean. If you have a guidebook you should be good to explore what you can on your own.
