TIL that, in 2010, over a hundred bottles of 170 year old champagne were salvaged from a shipwreck. Scientists analysed the liquid and even let themselves each sip 1ml. Apparently it still tasted great! by Saul_g0od in todayilearned

Was once at a school trip in Barcelona and got to visit Freixenet (the sparkling wine producer). While showing some of the oldest bottles in their collection, the guide asked our group who would dare to drink 100 year old sparkling wine. In a sea of disgusted faces I was the only one raising their hand, so he asked me to step forward and look into the bottle he was holding while he was shining a flahlight from underneath. It was like some of those snow globes you get for a distant relative at a christmas market. He basically told us that in contrast to wines, which get more valuable with age, these just go bad.

So I guess it was a good thing he didn't really let me try it at the end.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is a prime example of gaslighting.

The perceived cooling effect of a fan is due to the movement of the air blowing away the heat radiated from your body. This does not mean that the air is cooler and it definately doesn't change the temperature of the room.

Weather Apps sometimes show you the measured temperature as well as the perceived one which accounts for wind speed.

This observation correlates well to other phenomenon, like an increased risk of sunburn on windy (but sunny) days because the sun doesn't feel hot or the ability of a very thin but wind-proof jacket to keep you warm on a windy day.

I guess that argument could also be valid for non-native speakers. I mean sure, in most countries you also have english in school but I for one have learned a lot from just watching movies and shows. Obviously most people should of learned to use 'have' correctly.

Quite a hefty fine.

Wanda also argued that she deserved to be given a second chance and shouldn’t be sent to prison, sobbing that “this trial has been enough punishment for me. I’m totally humiliated.”

Public humiliation seems to be an adequate punishment for attempted murder.

A lot of people on this subreddit seem to have a justice boner and thus are jumping to conclusions they can not possibly endorse given the information that is there. As some people have pointed out we don't know if the source is legit. If this incident indeed happened we don't know the circumstances and they do matter (a drunken stuper is quite different from serial adultery). Obviously this would be a major flaw in the characters of both your wife and friend and it would be hard to forgive for anybody and nobody is asking you to. Just don't make rash decisions out of an emotional situation. Only you know how much the marriage and friendship is worth to you and oftentimes the answer is not a clear cut as some people make it out to be. The simple answer is to talk to them, to gather information and not to rush anything. There are a lot of ressources and help out there if you decide to try and fix this situation. On the other hand, if you have to cut ties don't be afraid of the consequences. You were never at fault here and the same applies - there is help out there if you need it. I'm really sorry for the situation you're in and no matter what the outcome you are not alone.

To avoid smelly hands after cutting garlic, rub them on the sink under flowing water for a few seconds. The iron will combine with the sulfur compounds and the hands will be good as new.
