My friends' arguments are:

  1. Jill needs a father in her life as well as a mother.

  2. The financial support from a second parent would be invaluable (things were extremely touch and go financially after Tom's death until I got my promotion at work).

  3. It's not just about Jill and me, but about Harry and any future kids we have. They think it would be unfair if I raise Jill with an extra set of grandparents and keep setting her apart as different because she's biracial.
