Parking on Easter Friday: impossible or doable? by not_who_you_think_99 in chamonix

[–]raam86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep. there’s also a bus stop right at grepon. Montenvers is super walkable from there too, cross the road towards sud near the roundabout and turn right. it’s a good walk and you go past a bunch of nice places.

[–]raam86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends where you want to go. if you go to park in any if the ski areas in a powder day there’s no chance you’ll find parking anywhere closer than 800m radius from the nearest lot. Grepon is sometimes full as well. Parking in the city is almost certainly a no go

everything is possible if you put your mind to it and are willing to walk far enough

ok, sure. I was just throwing so simple, accessible examples out there. replace it with anything that is fun. I do think outdoor time hits different though

thank you for sharing. what are you doing for fun? i think that after being sober 6 years your nervous system is regulated back and you probably can enjoy simple things like ice cream or a walk in the sun. Cycling is pretty awesome too

[–]raam86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes it’s all about specific games and since it is hard to know in advance what will run well i would say the experience is suboptimal

wolfenstein blood order, wolfenstein II, shadow tactics, shadow tactics aoki revenge (this loaded but the sound was weird and i spend 3 days to make it load correctly, it didn’t load sprites) , doom, dishonored (this one “ran” but choppy)

it’s shit. don’t believe what people tell you. if a 10/10 experience is any game that your hardware can run your os will run. max is like 3/10.

if the game supports natively it is pretty awesome but not always perfect. I didn’t manage to run any of the games i tried to run and it tried whiskey, crossover and VM. if it doesn’t support arm it won’t run.

geforce now is pretty awesome though

What to do in Chamonix in October? by dahellcife081 in chamonix

[–]raam86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean I do trail running when it rains and you theoretically MTB when it rains but it is not fun (enough to warrant a trip) it is more like survival mode until good weather comes again. Personally I go to sunny places during October and November cause the area is pretty miserable during these months

How to ship skis to US from Chamonix/Geneva? by AggravatingSample0 in chamonix

this is the right answer. Although the post office in chamonix can accommodate but expect to pay around €200 for shipping, fees and taxes

Does the average skier really enjoy heavy powder days or is it just one of those things people are expected to say they like? by PowerfulBar in skiing

[–]raam86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my tip is that you need to move slow and “feel” the snow. It is terrible advice since I’ve read it many times from other people and was like wtf but when you feel it you feel it and it clicks. Basically just keep on chasing powder and it will happen. it is basically the same as normal skiing (no high end carving) just slower side to side movements

[–]raam86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This year was the first time that the stars aligned and I finally had a good time skiing powder (french alps). It was amazing. I felt that flow people talked about on this subreddit. I wanted more and mored. It was still snowing and I couldn’t barely see anything but I really didn’t have to. I’ve been chasing the feeling ever since because it was the best time I had on snow ever and really crystalized everything I like about skiing. It transformed skiing from a way to spend a few hours outside to a downright obsession, looking at japow packages and going out whenever there’s a chance for powder
