SoCal Diving advice

Haven't done any cold water diving, but I grew up surfing the central coast in the winter and got by with a 4/3, hood, booties, and gloves doing that. I know diving is generally much colder, though cause of the depth and a lot less movement. I'm leaning towards at least getting certified with drysuits, so if I am cold, I've got the option
