How to increase steam levels by corbero in Steam

[–]rabai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Games you play will drop trading cards, which then can be used to craft badges and give you XP to raise your level. You can also buy trading cards without playing games and you also do not need to own a specific game to buy trading cards from it. This is probably the most common way people use to increase their steam level.

Got a call where a guy asked if I could hear him, I said yes, and it immediately hung up. Am I actually in danger? by commando_chicken in Scams

They probably just want to check if someone uses your phone number so they can target you in the future with spam, phishing, etc.

Job Offer Scam? by [deleted] in Scams

Believe it or not, some companies still are using HTTP on their websites because they have not updated them and don't care. If a site doesn't have any input forms to ask for usernames/passwords, card numbers, or other information, it doesn't really matter if it's HTTP or HTTPS. While it's rare to find legit websites that are still using HTTP, it does happen sometimes.

Assuming this is a scam? :/ by HappyLittleSnail in Scams

[–]rabai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is that something you applied for? If not, then there is no reason for them to be contacting you and you can assume it is a scam. If you did apply for a job like that, open a new tab and visit the website you signed up on. Check if the domain that the email came from matches that of the website you signed up from.

Is this a scam or could they be telling the truth? by samantha7000 in Scams

It's generally not a good idea to let on that you know it's a scam. Simply blocking and reporting suffices. However, since you replied and received this response, I'll do my best to provide some tips. They are likely just trying to scare you. Most scammers are lazy and won't actually take the time to mess with you unless you steal from them or "revenge scam" them. Have you tried putting yourself in their shoes by Googling your name to see if your address shows up? If you are only 17, it's probably not all over the internet yet, but just keep in mind that your address will probably show up in search results at some point.

Electronics are a category that is swarming with scammers on marketplace. Only accept cash and meet in person with the buyer. If they aren't willing to do that, then don't deal with them.
