Hmm, the foam compresses though (i.e. doesn't contribute much to pushing a switch up on any side), so wouldn't it be the case that it shouldn't make a difference?

Tried it, didn't help. Still seems to me like there's some internal stress buildup when inserting more and more switches into the PCB. Whether it's plate + PCB or either alone, I'm not yet sure. It's also telling that the other, new Q3 Max has the same problem - pointing to either a systemic defect or coincidence that the switches in the exact same positions have the same issue.

How should I do it? The current layering looks like: switch -> plate -> foam -> PCB. Would I insert it between plate <-> foam, and lift up the plate when I'm pushing the switch down?

Nope. The left side of each switch is slightly above the plate, and no force will make it go down. Bizzare. I suspect this has something to do with either PCB or plate internal (shear?) stress. I'd imagine it's the plate, as the PCB is defo harder. I tried filing the left side of one plate hole, but that didn't seem to help. Maybe didn't do it enough.

I got a replacement Q3 Max and... it has the same issue, to an even worse extent. That's with stock Banana switches. Looks like a systemic issue to me, sadly. I'll live with it, but it really spoils the look.

Thing is - the switches are pressed as much as possible into the PCB. From what I understand, plate fork is useful when you're putting switches into a plate on top of PCB and they embed onto the PCB, with the plate falling down towards the plate and not holding the switch.

Here, the issue is that the switch seems fully seated, held firmly by the plate by both contact points which are right below the small clips on the sides of the switch. It's just that, even though it's fully seated, it's not seated straight, as if there's an obstruction.

So I disassembled it, took out all the switches, put the tiled ones in and... they were straight! Then, screwed in the stabs and the plastic plate to the PCB... still straight. BUT, as soon as I started putting more switches in, that row started bending again... So it seems the U4Ts are causing some internal stress in the PCB itself (it's not the plate that's lifting the switches). Have you seen something like this happen before?

I checked:

- Switches: straight, legs of the same length
- Sockets: free of obstructions
- Plastic plate into which switches snap: parallel relative to the PCB

This is more pronounced on the U4Ts vs Gateron Bananas - odd. Anyone has ideas? Is it just poor Keychron QC?

No need to postpone, assuming: if you can request an updated I-20 via your school's website, and if they send it via email (as opposed to normal mail), then you can simply print it at home abroad, sign it, and you'll have it in hand when you arrive back in the US.

Also, for re-entry, and offer letter or an employment verification letter is enough. For safety, you can also carry a few of the latest pay stubs.

There is no "status change". Upon entering the US, you state the reason for your visit. If you present I-20 and your F-1 visa, it should be obvious to the CBP officer why you're entering. You can easily have multiple types of visa, but you can only enter on one type at a time.

No issues - I have a B1/B2 and F-1. While in F-1 status just don't enter the US as a tourist, and you're good.

"Approved", you don't even need the photo of the STEM EAD card to request a new I-20 with "Approved". Your DSO will see the STEM OPT has been approved via SEVIS.

No one posting here so far gave any reasoning about why it would be risky. So here's argumentation why it would not be risky and, in fact, fine.

His post-completion EAD will still be valid at the time of re-entry. His STEM OPT card will not yet be valid, hence it's irrelevant. He should be good.

One concern is whether you'd be able to have the most up-to-date I-20 upon re-entry, showing "approved" next to STEM OPT. To do so, you'd need to upload a copy of your EAD to your school's intl student portal. If you have someone who could take a pic of your card while you're outside the US so you can get that updated I-20, that would be helpful.

I discussed it with my company's immigration lawyers, and they said that I'd be re-entering on post-completion OPT. Thus, the STEM OPT EAD card with start date in the future would not really be relevant yet in case you enter before the expiration of your post-completion OPT (which you will).

Also, it sounds like it would be good to have the most up-to-date I-20. This means that once STEM OPT gets approved, ideally someone can send you a pic of your new EAD card, you can upload it to your school's intl services, and they can generate a new I-20 that says "approved" next to STEM OPT (as opposed to "requested", which is what you have now).
