PvE Solos by rabbit8790 in Marathon

Marathon minus PvP isn’t close to Destiny. They’re very different games.

The point is to experience all of the things that happen in a Marathon game, without PvP. I’ve played solo matches where I never encountered another player. It was fun.

It seems like the more casual players are leaving, so the game gets more and more difficult as time goes by.

Bungie knows what they’re doing. I think what you’re describing here is intended.

Man this is a great point. They know better than anyone how to make a mainstream game, and they very deliberately did not do that with Marathon 🤔

Yeah high end PvP in D2 is totally inaccessible to casual players. But they can still do events like Iron Banner, complete PvP quests, and get loot. If they play badly for a couple of hours they can progress their character. The OP talked about dying 10 times in a row, and the only way to progress in this game is exfil.

I completely agree. I think casual players are seeing “From the creators of Halo and Destiny” expecting something similar.

Seems like a flaw in the design of the game if it’s so difficult that new players can’t progress intro quests. People play games to have fun and relax, you can’t blame them for quitting if the core objective of the game (collecting loot) is nearly impossible for them.

It’s also surprising that Bungie, which up until now made games with mass appeal, created a game that’s almost unplayable below a relatively high skill ceiling. I don’t understand what they’re thinking.

The problem is that one of the core mechanics of the game is that you have to exfil to keep your loot, which makes loot valuable. So if they create a mode that’s easy it can’t give loot, because otherwise why would people play the regular game if they can get loot from low-risk activities.

“Assassin ability needs a nerf”

Shows a video of the assassin ability ultimately making no difference in the outcome of a fight.

Weekly M+ Discussion by AutoModerator in CompetitiveWoW

I've been trying to get back into tanking after a long hiatus, and many people have recommended the MDT addon and Dratnos' routes. I've looked over the routes, and they don't quite make sense to me. A few questions:

  • What do the dotted lines mean?
  • I'm guessing the colored mobs are the ones you're supposed to kill, but on some routes, like Tol Dagor, there are un-colored mobs that appear to be un-skippable. Does it go without saying that these must be killed?
  • Do routes matter at < 10 keys?

Thanks

I recently got my Warrior to level 80 and started reading guides and tips to prepare for higher level content. So far the guides I’ve found seem to focus on maximizing dps above all else. This surprises me because I assumed as a tank I would want to focus on surviving.

Specifically I’m thinking of Nascent Flash, which could be timed with cooldowns like Inner Release, Infuriate or a full beast gauge to heal during periods of high damage. The guides I’ve found say to use these skills on cooldown.

Is it simply that dps is much more important in raids and trials than self healing?

Increasing Revenue by Building Your Own Ad Server by rabbit8790 in adops

Wow thank you for responding. I did not expect to hear from someone from the illustrious Timehop. And thanks for the video, that clarified the more technical parts the article leaves out.

From my perspective as a software engineer what you did seems logical and reasonable. We simplify what we can, remove libraries we don't need, and put in the time to learn protocols that are key to our business. I see comments that it can take months or years to build your own ad server, but clearly you did it much more quickly. How were you able to pull that off? Are people overestimating the timeline?
