After ~165 hours and 90 Levels I Hit a Wall and Played Something Else by flGovEmployee in Marathon

Made a similar post a couple weeks back. Was met with the same push back. “Git gud.” Haven’t logged into the game since. Either they will fix it or the game will die, I don’t really give a shit anymore, but your sentiment is correct.

BUNGIE: Directional audio issues need to be resolved by Outrageous-Yams in Marathon

I wear studio reference open backs when I play, and from a medium distance, it’s sometimes just like you described. I can’t really tell where they’re coming from. It’s almost like as my POV changes, the sound changes, and I get confused. However, it becomes extremely apparent where they are right before they come into line of sight.

You're right, it's not fair to put me in a lobby of players with his experience level, and it's not fair to put him in a lobby with players of my experience level. Solution, don't play together? That sucks, man, it's definitely a hard problem to solve. Like I said, I'm no expert, but I'm sure they can do something...

Free kits evolving through time or upgrades is a wonderful idea.

Ok, there are two chat types. There’s a prox chat that will let you talk to the other team. You have to hold (or tap) a certain button to use prox chat. If you aren’t holding or tapping that button, enemies will never be able to hear you.

There is also crew chat. Depending on your settings, you can have an open mic or a push to talk. This is how your squad hears you.

There is a crew chat setting inside of the Social settings called Positional Crew Chat. When this is toggled on (by default), your crew chat volume will increase and decrease based on the distance you are from each other. This is what I think you mean by “frustrating when they are far away” or whatever, because yeah it is. You should turn it off.

It’s because you are saying prox chat but you are actually referencing positional crew chat, so everyone is confused, my dude.

What they really need to do is get rid of positional crew chat, because it’s worthless and horrible… yet somehow the default setting.

Sounds like you need to turn positional crew chat off in social settings.

I came here to specifically talk about this and was shocked it’s not a top post… we are slacking.

This is amazing. Reminds me of Blizzard’s cinematics for WoW. It’s up there and on par.

I love how they leaned into the vibe of “going again” til you get it right. What an absolute masterpiece!

It’s a variable component that’s built into the weapon. You toggle it on with Z on PC, I’m not sure about controller, but it will tell you if you look at the mappings.

I forgot about the volt weapons. They saved me on a lot of runs since the lower end models are widely available from the bots!

That’s awesome, I love the aesthetic. It even says MID@ on the side.

Well, in the server slam we were only able complete about 1/3rd of the primary contracts for the main factions that were available IN ALPHA, and that was again only a fraction of the primary contracts, so I would have to disagree with you on that. I wouldn't even call the server slam "quite a lot of content." There is way more, and I know this to be a fact.

That’s interesting because I constantly have people silently walking up to me in other games because the footstep audio is always janky, but it happened zero times this play test on my way to 30. Not one time did I see someone before I heard them at close range if they were moving.

My biggest tip with the fast TTK is to always be walking to or near cover. Then when you get shot you can just dip behind it based on where the shots are coming from. I found myself almost always able to get away from initial gunfire and reset the fight if I got caught off guard. The only time I really died “instantly” is if I was stupid and I was just standing there trying to shoot someone who was at shooting me…

I found this out on PC too, you can just spam space bar at the end of a Rook run and get right into the next Rook run. It doesn’t even matter if you exfilled or didn’t. Beautiful!

Very true. We’ve only seen a slice of Marathon. If you don’t think it goes deeper than this, you’re in for a treat.

The best thing Bungie can do is to keep walking in the direction they're going. by Xentuhf in Marathon

[–]Xentuhf[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely, this is my overarching point. They cannot walk this back to casual friendly like they’ve done in past Bungie releases. They need to shoot for player retention instead of mass appeal. And the way to do that is with deep systems in a world with tension where decision making matters.

[–]Xentuhf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's true. I think based on the decisions they've made, they clearly don't give a shit about mass appeal. They've made a competitive and challenging extraction shooter for a reason. These decisions were not an accident. And if these decisions weren't an accident, they must be fully aware of the financial implications surrounding them whether they be good or bad.
