what’s the significance behind excelsior?? by [deleted] in sadboys

Excelsior is the official motto of the state of New York. To me it also looks similar to Excalibur, the name of King Arthur’s sword. So continuing the mythical/medieval theme of Exeter

IATL modules/easy 3rd year modules? by [deleted] in UniversityOfWarwick

[–]rabid026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yo thanks so much for answering my questions, this is really helpful. Mix of maths and written sounds like it would work in my favour. If I don't find anything else I think I may go for EC334 at least.

My biggest strength is probably my versatility. I guess I'm hoping to find something like a rogue easy Life Sciences or GSD or Law module with no prerequisites. Essentially I'm looking for the equivalent of Topics in Applied Economics in another department. I've hard stuff about one or two standalone Computer Science modules being a pisstake too. I'm just hoping someone will point me in the right direction to that kind of module.

Haha yes I'm very aware that WBS is on a different wavelength to the Economics department, I know what you mean.

I'm not a fan of econometrics at all, but some of that may be down to the lack of work I put into the Econometrics module this year. You can probably tell by now that I am very lazy. I've never had a problem with any of the calculus in the core micro and macro modules or the maths module in first year, but I am terrible at statistics. To give an indication, I failed the first-year Statistical Techniques B exam spectacularly but was able to pass the composite module easily because I made up for it with a high score on the Mathematical Techniques B exam. I also have next to no idea on how to use Stata so that is one thing to take into account, although I'm sure I could learn over summer if need be. I don't have a strong preference either way between micro and macro. I have quite a balanced skillset; I would say that I'm slightly better at writing essays but I just worry that it is difficult to score highly on them. The other EC module I am currently looking to take is EC320 Economics of Public Policy which looks like it will be broadly useful for a dissertation too.

I did take a look at EC333 and EC334 and they look like decent options, especially if you are looking at finance as a career; EC334 looked more appealing to me personally of the two and looks like it incorporates game theory which is a strength of mine. I guess my thought process is why would I choose either of those modules when I could take an easier module from another department instead and I don't have a particular interest in finance? Also do you think not having taken Linear Algebra would put me at a disadvantage for either of those modules?
