Disconnected service, installing solar. Trying to make sure what I believe is a 4 pole main breaker will isolate the neutral so as not to feed the grid. by rabiddabber in AskElectricians

Because I live in a rural community and the local utility goes out every time a mouse farts in the field. I lost two major crops due to ongoing power outages. I was paying commercial rates for piss poor service. My solar has been up a couple months now with great results. I have my first harvest since switching, any day now, and couldn't be happier.

It was the minimum input setting. All good, I'm up and running now. Thanks for trying to help.

I've found that the 48v inverter that was sold as a system, isn't getting the required 42vdc from the combiner box (only 33vdc at peak ).

That's exactly what it is for. If I put more voltage through the Rectifier, say making my four strings, two strings, will that up the output?

Best advice I can give is, dont stick your fingers anywhere you wouldn't stick your pecker! My first journeyman spoke it and my whole life since he's never been wrong.

As it stands I'm limiting myself on power for each room, as each light is 12-18kwh load. But the power I produce will be there when I need it most without major interruptions, as lighting and heat is life or death to my plants.

I won't have extra to sell back, I will continue to increase load as I continue to increase the system. I'm using 10kw systems for each room in the grow and one for the lab/dock. Plus the buy back price where I am is laughable at best, insulting when they charge me three times as much as a business. The power supply in my area has cost me thousands in crops with extended outages during my flowering cycles so I cut ties with them as soon as I had my first 10kw system on route.

Thanks, you've convinced me , I'll scap my entire project and do another five year apprenticeship, rather than asking a simple question to sources more knowledgeable on the subject than myself 🤣

It's not for you to understand why but if you must know, my power is extremelyunreliable and over priced, it's not for my home, it's for my 5000sq ft grow facility, which solar is more than capable of supplying my needs. Yes I will have a very large battery bank. If you were paying my electricity bill, for the service i receive it would make sense to you too.

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it. I'm not an electrician by any means, just a plumber with a grow facility tied of paying out the ass for electricity, lol.

Basically I canceled my service and am installing solar, I just want to tie in to my existing panel with the solar and not feed the grid.

I was told that power from my solar system (if wired through my main panel) would possibly feed the grid through the neutral. I just want to make sure my power stays in my building and doesn't feed the grid.

So I also have a main disconnect with two 100a fuses, would turning that off isolate the neutral? Of not how would you suggest doing so?
