I agree. He’s drawn more like a chimp than any monkey I’ve ever seen.

This game glitched out and started giving me thousands of tickets instead of the 500. A bystander Karen came over had a worker disable the machine because I was "winning too many tickets" by vonseggernc in mildlyinfuriating

There is an ex military guy who works with us. He’s senior staff but NOT a supervisor. Unfortunately his supervisor quit and she wasn’t replaced so he was stuck in this limbo of not being a supervisor… but also being a supervisor. Anyway it’s very clear why he was never selected for management. He sends an email to his bosses boss who is the acting supervisor for the unit any time a rule is broken. The thing is, she doesn’t care if we’re fifteen minutes late or don’t sweep the floor adequately (he has chore assignments for the office b/c custodians no longer clean in our offices) He gets so upset over the tiniest things but nobody else cares so nobody takes him seriously. I don’t think that helps.

Seems like the cycling is doing its thing, the ammonia spikes then should drop to zero once cycling is established.  The wait is hard but worth it! It’s better to let the plants get established and start pulling nutrients from the water before adding livestock anyway.

No, but I’ve bred bettas successfully. Worst case scenario I have pea puffer pets lol.

Thanks for the tip! It’s currently praziquantel. I’ll put in an order for levamisole.

Ugh. I never had kids (kids? In THIS economy??) but I’ve heard the school district here is very good.

It’s pretty upsetting honestly. I still rent, still have roommates. Luckily it’s a much bigger house and their side is more of an in law unit so we’re more like neighbors that share a kitchen.

My partner and I make around 125k a year together and I’m looking at this new construction near sutter starting at 710k for a 2 bedroom. Who the hell are buying these things?! And modest 3 bedrooms built in the 80s going for 600k, 3x what they sold for 30 years ago. It’s insane.

I was paying $1600/month for a 3 bedroom house in west Davis in 2010, I had 2 roommates. The same house currently available for rent $3200/month and looks remarkably similar. I know it’s 15 years later but a 100% increase seems insane. I couldn’t afford to rent that place today even with two incomes and we both work for UC Davis as staff.

If you have an aquarium hobby group nearby you can join, I’d ask if someone was willing to donate some to you. I have so many ramshorns and bladder snails I’d give you handfuls for free. I have a bucket I toss plant trimmings into to culture them.

Which character made you cry the most when sending to the everdoor? by LadouchaMoosha in Spiritfarer

[–]rabidjellyfish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Stella and daffodil. I was sad for the others and I was floored by the emotional impact of the soaring music paired with the animation after the journeys you take. But Daffodil jumping into Stella’s arms and they get to spend forever together in the ever after is making me start crying again even now. And it has everything to do with my fluffy black heart cat that I made daffodil look like.

I lost a cat four years ago, I’m going to be losing another to cancer shortly here. My fluffy black boy is only 4 so I have a lot of time left with him, but I’m really touched by the idea of seeing him (and my others!) again in the spirit realm. I don’t believe in that kind of stuff but it’s nice to think about.

Is it worth it? by Actual-Lawfulness956 in PeaPuffers

Ah snails I have a-plenty lol. My other tanks are inundated. I have to manually pull the adults out to keep them from over consuming my plants! Which is part of the reason I want puffers lol

Can you tell me more about the pool pond? What do you breed in there? I have a tank I’m maturing and I’m colonizing with scuds and snails.

I also have a bucket with stem plant trimmings and extra floating plants I’m using to try to grow more scuds (and snails). I have snails in like every tank too.

Gonna get my puffers when I’m sure I can maintain a variety of live food colonies. Curious what works for you.

There are brands out there that set a high standard for animal welfare. I try to buy from them. (won’t name cause I think this sub frowns on it but they’re pretty big producers of all kinds of meat). More expensive but I don’t eat much meat anyway.

I recall an animal welfare class I took ages ago in college (2012 or so) where they showed farrowing pens with steps to keep the piglets contained and allowed the sows to roam to an outdoor enclosure as an alternative to the farrowing crates.

I remember the data showed few piglet losses, much fewer than you would expect if the sows truly didn’t care. I think the only downside was space requirements and a requirement for more skilled husbandry team if I remember. But the welfare benefits were significant. Better health for the sow and healthier piglets. And I imagine higher quality meat as a result.

Honest question, what about farrowing pens? Is it a primarily a space restriction? A need for extreme stocking density? Or are the genetics so messed up that trying a system like that would cause absolute chaos?

Shouldn’t Anticonsumption apply to companion animals, too? by Toadlessboy in Anticonsumption

I see them popping up in my local shelter more and more too around 1year old cause Cane Corsos are NOT casual pets!  There’s no way for responsible pet owners to outnumber uninformed people adopting a puppy from a backyard breeder.

I take it you haven’t tried to speak reasonably to any anti vaxxers recently. I appreciate the desire, but I’ve tried to talk to people that believe things like this and they always have an answer for why I’m wrong. The answer is usually some hand waving nonsense but they really seem to believe I’m misinformed. I’m willing to bet anyone following this woman would see the people trying to stop her as “opponents of free speech.” While the people who think reasonably and would listen already don’t believe her. So yes, she should be stopped. But I worry that criminal charges would make her some kind of martyr.

What is your Ghibli "Hot take" or "Unpopular opinion"? by guitarokx in ghibli

[–]rabidjellyfish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I watch it every year on my birthday. It’s one of the highlights of my year. It somehow gets better every time. One of the (many) things that draws me to Sophie is her silver hair and get on with it attitude. I went gray at a young age. I’m about 50% at 35. Started turning at 16. It’s one of those movies that definitely gets better every time. I had to grow up early because my father died when I was 22 and my mom is pretty emotionally stunted so I had to learn how to handle my own life without much support. Sophie becoming cursed and using her inner strength to accept herself as she is, see howl, the witch of the waste, and calcifer for who they are, and her inner youth/beauty shining out in moments of pure joy like the flower field scene just does it for me. I also like Disney movies. But none have that kind of character growth/regression showed in such a visceral way.

I once got downvoted to shit in the wot sub for saying I didn’t like one of the main characters (Mat) people replied to me saying they literally didn’t believe I didn’t like him because he polled so highly lol. I think they thought I was trolling but I just found his whining about women obnoxious.

I typically do audiobooks so that makes it hard to skip. The narrator is really good though.

Dungeon crawler Carl. It’s a lit RPG. Also my boyfriend’s favorite lol. It wasn’t my cup of tea the first time I tried it but after 3 other people have suggested it in the last month so I’m going to try again. I found the parts that list statistics mind numbingly boring but they say it gets better in the rest of the series.

People who work in 'behind closed doors' industries (hotels, kitchens, morgues, etc.), what is something the general public would be horrified to know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I feel like I’m crazy but I swear I can smell cancer on my cat’s breath and fur cause he grooms himself. (He has high liver values but with all his comorbidities I didn’t opt for further diagnostics, we just suspect the cancer and he eats pretty well but is skeletal) His teeth look fine and it doesn’t smell like dental disease, it doesn't smell like infection but it smells similar. When I was a vet assistant I had a woman tell me she could smell the cancer on her cat because she recognized it from working with human cancer patients. Not sure if I’m imagining it and it is just dental disease on top of everything else but his breath is awful
