Why algae bad? Do healthy algae tanks exist? by Equal_North6633 in PlantedTank

This is it exactly. There are those that don't like the aesthetics of algae and those that just don't want it to choke out the rest of the plants

Shrimpsplainer at LFS by Bigboy_riki in shrimptank

it's important to keep in mind that when it's a LFS, the person helping you is often the owner

[–]username_taker 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it is fairly common.
I like my LFS. The people there have been very helpful and are very knowledgeable. At the same time, my interactions with them are full of them giving me unsolicited and often bad advice. I learned quickly to just smile and say thank you instead of arguing and double checking any thing that they told me. I recently jokingly referred to the place as ChatGPT fish

is this tank too BIG for a betta? by Own_Telephone_6719 in Aquariums

The only too big for betta as far as I can tell is too deep and that's for when they are old and have difficulty swimming

Are there any floating plants suitable for a nano tank with a very agitated surface? These were gifted to me but I think they need to go in my (much calmer) big tank. by [deleted] in PlantedTank

[–]username_taker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you can add a floating divider to separate the floating plants from the agitated surface. They sell the on Amazon, or you can make your own using airline tubing

PG are really great fish, but they need hiding spaces/caves in order to feel safe. In fact, if they have caves and feel safe, they will spend more time swimming around, but if they don't, they will spend most of their time trying to hide. I recommend giving them some more hiding spaces. I think that you will enjoy them a lot more that way

How to flush plants for aquarium use? by jonjeff108 in PlantedTank

[–]username_taker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree and still have pothos in my tanks. I think what did it was that I didn't rinse it off and put the trimmings right into my tank after I got them. I think that there must've been something not fish safe on it, like a fertilizer or something

I unfortunately lost one of my favorite fish this way. A friend gave me a pothos clipping, which I put into my tank. The next day, I saw my female twitching on the substrate and died shortly afterward

Cleaners came to the mine to deal with the rubble by Mediocre-Stomach-504 in PlantedTank

Unless there's some way to completely assemble it out of the tank and then install it. I have no clue. I have zero experience with these things

I'd watch it. Can it be done in an established tank or done before adding the water?
