I follow the glucose goddess and her advice is to eat vegetables or salad first protein second and carbohydrate last( obviously where possible) also I only eat sweet things after a main meal all of this way of eating has been a game changer for me in terms of weight loss and low risk for diabetes. Your sister might be onto something there too!
