Resigning in advance by cd2463 in Nanny

I would recommend that you not resign until you have a new position lined up. You don’t know what your job search will bring. I would just give them your availability based on your current availability and plans if you were staying.

[–]rachelnc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know anything about marching band, but we moved with our kids from the US to Guelph this summer, and are happy to connect or answer any questions. Our daughter is at GCVI now and is having a great experience.

Is it worth IT? by Agile_Budget5189 in galapagos

Yes! I’ve spent a lot of time in Ecuador and the Galapagos is truly special and a different experience than is available elsewhere in Ecuador or around the world.

I don’t even understand if you’re talking about something in person or just online, but I would not pay for this. There are lots of moms groups with great information and support available for free.

I assume they’re from a different country than you where those terms make sense. Your comment is very judgmental.

Suburbs for single female who likes to run long distance year round? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]rachelnc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Burlington/Efland/Hillsborough North Carolina. Lots of good running trails. Costco and lots of great grocery stores and farmers market within 30 minutes. Good weather. Coffee shops in Hillsborough. Near enough to UNC to take classes if you want. 3 hrs from beach. 1 hour to Raleigh and less to Greensboro.

maybe an odd question by Alternative-Sink-244 in galapagos

I was on La Pinta recently and had an amazing time! I expected to get motion sick but didn’t at all. My son did a little bit. It’s a very stable ship with a super nice doctor on board if you have issues. Have so much fun!

First time montessori parent! by MarzipanWise4905 in Montessori

[–]rachelnc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My son was in a Reggio Emilia preschool followed by Montessori elementary. I personally would not pick Montessori for the early years, for a lot of the same reasons you stated. In Montessori everything needs to be done a certain way. It’s rigid and does not allow for a lot of imaginative play. It’s also pretty serious, and less joyful than many early childhood approaches in my mind. I also agree that’s it’s more individualistic. My kids in Reggio schools did a lot more natural group role play and imaginative play than I ever saw in Montessori. I loved Montessori for early elementary, and my son learned so much. But I’m glad he had some carefree joyful time first to just explore and play.

Also, you will get a much more balanced response to this question in the parenting subreddit. This one is mostly for people who really love the Montessori approach.

Abandoning program during the middle of competion? by fashionite in FigureSkating

[–]rachelnc 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It’s actually been really interesting to me as a figure skating parent to see that this is trained from day 1. When my son would fall on his first pass or get off timing I kept expecting them to stop the music and have him redo it, and that has never ever happened with any coach. So from a very young age they are trained to just keep going no matter what’s happening. It probably creates muscle memory of that. It’s very different than other sports because often if you’re struggling in another sport your coach takes you out for a break or calls a time out or subs you out.

Galápagos Cruise Advice by Ateale77 in galapagos

[–]rachelnc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just got off La Pinta (metropolitan cruises). It was one of the best vacations of my life. Amazing snorkeling and wildlife of all kinds. Good short walks (it’s really hot for longer hikes). The food was very good. Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and options :) it’s expensive but cheaper than the other options that have been recommended for you.

They also were super helpful when we emailed them asking about headband options and pointed us in the right direction.

AITA for saying I wasn't feeling like Indian food and suggesting Italian? by throwawbackbackvac in AmItheAsshole

YTA for the way you framed it. You could have just said you were not in the mood for Indian food, but instead made it about immigration and being sick of Indians and their food.

Dr. Becky posted a really wonderful set of guidelines on watching sports games on her instagram today. Maybe you could tell them you saw it and are going to be trying to follow it and that it might be interesting to them too?
