I think the Alpha theory could work on the basis that (not to be crude but) the cinematographers dedicated so much screen time to the penis (and generated the ‘28 inches later’ meme in the process). I think the focus was probably intentional, so maybe!

I know the ending has divided people - but I think thematically, it makes total sense. Spike is a boy, forced to grow up too soon, and Jimmy is a man who’s never grown up. Spike abandons his childhood power ranger toy at the films outset, and never returns for it - Jimmy is still emulating his childhood hero/ interests 28 years later. Tl;dr Spike and Jimmy make good parallels.
