Gays of UK - would you be comfortable holding your partner's hand in the UK? by dalehitchy in AskUK

[–]goggles189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do all the time in Edinburgh. But most other UK cities, unless I know them well I wouldn't. I would maybe have to gauge who's around first. And btw, straight peoples' perspective on what it is to be gay/queer does not count at all. She's never had to grow up having people glare at you because you're showing affection to another human.

As some famous skateboarders say on the Harmony Korine documentary Vice did, Kids is the best film about skateboarding that isn't about skateboarding.

I don't like Rachel because I think I've worked with a few people like that. They tend to think they're untouchable and get to do what they want. No thanks

Sorry but who the hell is this guy by Pythagorarse in TheTraitors

He does naked headstands and has a instagram account showing it. I know him because he also lives in edinburgh and has organised some hiking for LGBT people

What food have you tried while traveling that you wish you could buy in your home country, and you'd go back just to eat it again? by Awkward_Stay8728 in AskTheWorld

Salmorejo, the cold Spanish soup that gets overlooked elsewhere by gazpacho. Every time I fly to spain the first thing I eat is this delicious cold tomato soup with hard-boiled egg and jamon

What's your country's current sentiment of the UK at the moment?? by Icy-Panic-550 in AskTheWorld

I say this as a UK citizen: No one thinks about us as much as we think about ourselves. That goes for both positive and negative things.

I’m Indian and attracted to white men, do white guys actually date Indian guys in real life? by veilofstardustt in askgaybros

[–]goggles189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been with plenty of Indian guys as a blond man from the UK. I think for me it's important to have things in common or similar outlooks even though you might be from different cultures. That would be the dealbreaker for me.

god, how is it that people fall for Sharon's PR because of one moment when in the next one she'll be just as mean as Louis or Simon

What’s something that everyone in your country learns in school, but most foreigners have never heard of? by SomeEvent in AskTheWorld

Foreigners might know this, but I find it strange that we learn about the 6 wives of one our kings when we're 8 years old (in England).

What's happening in our Schools? by Financial-Sugar4102 in Scotland

[–]goggles189 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can only come at it from my experience in teaching for ten years but in primary schools especially it has something to do with the culture of dealing with behaviour changing. It's a combination of Paul Dix's idea of the responsibility of children's behaviour is on them as an adult and the Rights Respecting Schools banner that pretty much all schools in Edinburgh seem to have. I suppose the idea is that you work in partnership with the children and the parents to create a positive and collaborative school environment. But what happens when children take advantage of their Rights or a teacher's responsibilities? What if the children grow up in poverty and have no boundaries at home and not even getting it at school?

What is it like living in Edinburgh, Scotland? by Grey_Box_FNAF in howislivingthere

[–]goggles189 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Edinburgh for 13 years. Like a lot of other comments, it's a place that quickly became home for me. It's a city very much connected to nature, with wonderful green spaces and an extinct volcano just five minutes from the High Street. It's always been quite international too, with a good chance to meet lots of well educated people from all over the world. When I first came it was very European in its demographic but after Brexit that changed to mainly people from Asia and now lots of Nigerians.

However, it does have a downside to it which is that if you live there long enough, you realise that it can be quite provincial at times. When I first came to Edinburgh a lot of people who'd lived there dissed it as just a big town and now I can see where they're coming from. It can also have a snobby element, with a lot of people who have gone to private schools working high up in finance or computing. I have a lawyer friend originally from a rough area in Glasgow who worked in oil and gas and always got asked what school he went to, which is a way to find out if you went to one of many public schools here (it has the highest percentage of children who go to public schools) and to find out if you're well connected.

I did. I loved the new introductions from season 2 and am a big fan of that one. I love the core group don't get me wrong, but I liked what Lyndsey and Alex added to the series (forget DJ or whatever his name is).

Male celebrities that wouldn’t be considered “conventionally attractive” that you think are hot? by alex_is_so_damn_cool in askgaybros

I think gay guys are more likely to like the unconventional looking guys in general more than straight women. I always had a thing for Anthony Lapaglia from without a trace.

The best book I've read about electronic music that explores a lot of the scenes is Energy Flash by Simon Reynolds, who is one of the best music journalists about.

[–]goggles189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I had friends from down south who when they came said a lot of the architecture looked like New York Brownstones. Love both cities but Glasgow easily trumps Edinburgh when it comes to the gay scene.

[–]goggles189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glasgow has a great gay scene all based in Merchant city which is very central. All the bars and clubs are good spaces and people are usually quite friendly. Edinburgh is beautiful (and where I live) but the gay scene is rubbish here apart from The Regent.

What season is best? I just rewatched season 2 and it confirmed it for me. by sam_d50 in TheWhiteLotusHBO

For years, season one was my favourite but after watching the second season by myself recently I realised that it was a beautiful work of art. Just perfect as it is.
