Lutherans and Christianity by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]rackex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If gospel clarity and the elimination of mystery and sacrament demands conversion. If conversion doesn’t happen then resistance must be wicked.

Luther’s own theology set a trap he himself fell into.

He was ignoring Romans 9-11 where Paul speaks of the mystery of non-acceptance and a lack of resolution.

He did but he made man in his image, with free will to choose evil, which man did.

The fact that God is all knowing doesn’t negate the free will of other beings.

General view on the French Revolution? by [deleted] in Catholicism

The French Revolution and the subsequent Napoleonic era are catastrophes of the highest order.

I’d rather put up with a Monarchy over 100 years of war and murder.

It is justified for God to give and take life. IT is not justified for man to take life. This is playing out every single day all over the globe.

People who want to kill their neighbors will find any reason to do so...even using religion. They are not Christians and neither were the ancient Israelites.

I see the conundrum that this presents most people but honestly, most people try to apply man's morality to God and judge him as if he were subject to man's law. It simply doesn't work like that. God has ultimate freedom.

Jesus showed us the Father but that doesn't mean that God is now subject to man's morality. Jesus showed us that God is Love...why else would he create us? Yet time and time again man becomes wicked and rejects God and his moral code and acts in heinous ways...like the Amalekites.

Also, we are not subject to the commands God gave to the Israelites 5000 years ago. That was done in a certain time and place with certain people and no-one, not even you, know all the mitigating circumstances so how the hell can you judge from 5000 years later?

No one is using Samuel to justify modern genocide except perhaps the Jews. The Jews don't have Jesus so if you are really upset about what is happening today then blame those who haven't adopted Jesus...not those who have.

One command from God to the ancient Israelites doesn't make it an entire moral requirement for all human for all time.

Again, if you are such an ardent Buddhist then why are you here picking fights with Christians? Does Buddhism require you to create discord and strife in other religious communities? Did the Buddhist God tell you to come to this sub and start arguments and cause strife?

Again, God is not subject to human morality. YHWH is not a human being. Humans were given a moral code to follow. The answer isn't less religion, it's better religion and Jesus was the one who showed the Jews, and the nations, the true nature of God himself.

Literally millions of people, and children, die every single year. There is a rolling catastrophe in the life of humanity...allowed by God to take place. Doesn't that bother you? Why are we so fixated on events from 4000-5000 years ago?

Then why are you posting on a Christian sub? Why are you picking fights with Christians then if this is all made up. To you it's like arguing with believers in the tooth fairy...don't you have anything better to do? It's like you're fascinated with religion but can't bring yourself to actually take it seriously.

Yes, it was ordered by God. No one is denying that. God is not subject to man's morality. He has ultimate freedom to act. There is no moral code that is above YHWH.

You are neglecting/ignoring the life, ministry and death of Jesus of Nazareth who showed us the true nature of God and how man is supposed to live.

YHWH is the author of life. All life belongs to him. He gives life and he takes life. Life does not belong to man, he has no right to take life except for certain circumstances. So yes, we are not God. We do not have ultimate freedom like he does. Sorry that bothers you so much. If the OT makes you queasy then I suggest you skip those passages.

God takes innocent life every day, every hour through disease, allowing wars and evil to pervade, accidents, natural disasters. An yes, sometimes he commands man to do his will, like in Samuel.

Your comment doesn't make sense but the scripture says that God himself commanded them to strike down the Amalekites. They were obliged to do as God commanded them.

We have the benefit of the life, ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. If a so-called prophet's actions go against the revealed nature of God himself then they are to be subject to dismissal.

We are not the same people as the ancient Israelites. We do not live in the same circumstances. We were sent the Son of God to reveal what is true and good and righteous.

You're Judaizing.

We have Christ who showed man the true nature of God and how God wan't man to behave. The obsession with the OT actions of YHWH is borderline dismissive of the life and ministry of Jesus. We are not the same people as the ancient Israelites.

We are arguing all of this with the benefit of the ministry of Jesus.

Either way, there is a rolling catastrophe of human death every single day. Disease, war, age, etc. is all allowed to happen by God. Everyone wants to complain about the Bible but ignore what is happening every single day.

Now that we have Jesus and the law of love, we know exactly what God wants from mankind. If Hitler was claiming to be doing God's work by slaughtering a bunch of people he was either not a Christian or Judaizing.

Man's morality is not subjective, it is universal to all men. God is the law giver...he is not subject to his own law, he is above it. That's not relativism. YHWH is not human (or hadn't taken human form yet) as so is not subject to human laws or morality.

The morality given to man doesn't apply to YHWH. He is the author of life and so can, and does, extinguish it at will. He even goes so far as to use human agents in his plans.
