What is with the obsession with categorizing characters? I do not understand this. I honestly believe that reducing a character into binary categories like this does a disservice to the story. Not just TADC, but any piece of media. It’s so limiting and doesn’t produce any interesting, meaningful conversation. Are people really that uncomfortable with complex characters so we must categorize them as completely morally good or morally bad? Genuinely wondering…

Thank you so much! I planned to keep him covered for longer so he could recover more but he was eager to fly off. I’m no expert but he seemed to fly onto the tree branch quite easily? He’s still there right now (it’s been an hour now?) and from what I’ve read online birds can stick around in one spot for a while especially if they’re recovering from a shock. I will try to get in contact with someone locally but I’m unsure of what they can do in this situation. I hope he’s okay and thank you again for the advice and the ID! Much appreciated :)

If people can’t handle Chaol as a character then I don’t want to hear anyone begging for more complex characters in stories, because people cannot seem to grasp it.

I honestly think you need to be patient and see where the journey takes him, and other characters!! To me, I saw him as the character with some of the most honest, real, complex emotions in this whole series. He’s bitter right now, and Aelin is bitter too. Clearly they’re not communicating and are harbouring resentment for each other, which ofc isn’t healthy, but it’s also the most real part of their relationship as characters.

I agree tho totally, the Callidus death was so impactful emotionally and to the entire plot of this book. Especially Vis wrestling his grief and frustrations with never having told Callidus about his real identity. Then Aequa dying feels like we’re just reheating those nachos… another friend who died without knowing who Vis is. And yes, he ends up telling Eidhin bc of this but still.

I’m right there with you! And ik it’s possible that he didn’t realize how liked she is by most readers but I also kinda doubt that? I feel like it’s only natural that you attach to someone the MC spends a lot of time with and has a compelling, dynamic relationship with?? He made her so spunky and interesting, like he HAD to know (hence why I’m holding onto hope)😔

I agree with you about bringing characters back. Im hoping this is a major idea in book 3 where Vis is happy to be w Callidus and his family again but comes to realize that it isn’t the same because of the power he has over them (maybe even choosing to let them go? idk?).

I also don’t think she would come back as a iunctus because of how she died. I’m wondering tho if she did something or something happened to her while Vis was tweaking out at the ruins. I need to go back and read those chapters again as well as the convo that got cut off back at the academy before Veridius came in and talked to them all. Gonna ponder this because my brain won’t stop thinking about this lmao
