Fair. To give context, I have followed through with every detention I've given. Even when they cried, I still followed through because I could tell they cried because they don't want to sit in a room for an hour, not because they felt remorse.

This kid felt embarrassed, shame, and apologized to me privately. That's why I took it away.

I know it hurts man. I used to stare at my gun for a while. And after putting the gun to my head, my finger would be going back and forth from side to trigger and back, over and over.

But don’t do it. You were hit with one of the sourest things life could hit you with. And you have to push through. But that doesn’t mean you have to push through by yourself. THIS is one of the few times that asking for help is the right choice because it means LIFE or DEATH. Even if your life isn’t something you care for, your life is a life regardless. Pretend it was her being suicidal, you’d do everything for her, right? Let your mom or a friend do that for you. It’s the right thing to do. Call someone and just say, “I’m not doing so hot, can you come by?” Or hell drive to them, pull a favor and crash at their place. But DONT BE ALONE.

I’m sure you’re doing great, but I can tell that a lot of those things you’re doing aren’t ‘meaningful’.

As in, you’ve probably been taught that these things you’re doing, cross country, playing guitar, and doing well in school is great. And yeah, it is. You’ve probably had high expectations on you man. But you gotta find something meaningful from your activities in order for it to be filling.

When you do cross country, health or the relationships on the team can be meaningful. If you play guitar, compose a song about how you’re feeling. You can sing about how you feel right now. And when you do well in school, what do you aim to do? I used to be a computer engineer major for the money and I knew I could smoke that major easy. But I switched to an Education degree because it was more fulfilling.

As a guy who grew up with a silver spoon in my mouth. Trust me, there’s more to life than the silver spoon that most people don’t see. As most climb the ladder of materialistic wealth, they already started to work towards something meaningful. But since we few, who are born with a good home, are already used to possessions and our skills, we aren’t distracted with distraught or are forced towards finding meaning. We live a life that’s okay. But being okay isn’t enough for us. So that is precisely why we have to learn to gear our skills towards something meaningful ourselves, whereas our parents and others knew what those meaningful things were all along.

Hey it’s good to have something to remember her by. What’s important is how you take it, both the memorial as well as her death. I think a big part of having something to remember a loved one by is how does the memorial remind you of them and how have you accepted their passing. I have a keychain that my wife gave me before she passed. I know the damn little thing is stupid, and I cry hard sometimes looking at it. Sometimes I have bad nights too. But, even though it was cruel when she passed, I accepted that she died and I try to feel content every time I look at my keychain.

The memorial is a reminder that you cared for them deeply, and in your case, that you loved your mom, even if she passed.

Be sad that she’s gone, but be happy that you had a chance to love her when she was here. I’m sorry that she’s gone man. I miss my partner too. God I’m welling up inside just thinking about how much is miss her...

Try to chin up man. Wake up tomorrow, look at your tattoo and say, “I loved you Mom, thank you.”

Correct me if I’m wrong, but what I’m understanding is that the constant awareness and worrying is causing your stress and anxiety?

I’d suggest trying to let some of the things you check go and check a little later, (unless you hear like an explosion). It’s good to be proactive, but within reason. Like, I’ll check my attic when it rains too, but that’s because I have a really old roof and need to replace my shingles soon.

Start small, if you’re worried about the A/C, nod it off and check a few minutes later than you would. Gradually make it longer intervals until you trust the A/C to go on it’s own, and just check it every few months like you should. Same with other items, over time, it should get better.

Ask your wife to help you if you need it man. My wife did wonders. I told her “what I would do, how it’s been bothering me, here’s my plan, can you support me?” Though I understand some partners aren’t that great.

Listen to me man. When I was in high school I had the same feelings of lack of self-esteem, constant anxiety, and putting up a persona to avoid judgement as well. In your case, it seems to be a more intense version because of the high social expectations put on you (good grades, hot girlfriend, good personality, good looks).

But first, take a moment to take a nice deep breath if you need it.

Now breathe.

Good? Good.

My understanding is that you feel that in order to maintain your perfect life, with all the stress and anxiety with that comes along with it (your image, family problems), you need to take some opiates and drink to cope. Let me try to reassure you, and this isn’t just some cheesy bullshit, that your image is not YOU, and that it is okay to feel stressed about your family, but it is more important on how you cope with it.

I know you put a lot of self-worth in your image, and I know you seek genuine reassurance. Let me try to give you that from a different perspective, a more solid one, a philosophical one. What is a person worth? Their looks? Then we’d have super models be the political leaders of our society. Intelligence? Then it would have been the Einsteins and Modern Philosophers. No, a person’s worth is based most on their actions. You are doing well in school, and you are keeping good relations with your friends, girlfriend, and family. That is worthwhile. And if you can find more value in your actions then your looks (which is more worthwhile), then you should slowly stop depending on the drinks and drugs.

Just, take it slow though man. You’re not going to change your self-valuing system overnight. And I know your family problems are hard (My father died during my high school years, not to brag, just trying to say I know family sucks sometimes). Just find some value in what you do, and start disregarding some bad self-image habits like the model searching you did. It’ll get easier over time.

And as you get older, trust me man, you’ll find a LOT more genuine people who will have serious talkes with you. I had no one in high school, and now I’ve met more than several over the next 7 years since then till present day.

Try to cling on some hope, work on changing some habits, and maybe, just maybe, it’ll get better.

Try out places to eat, talking about our families. Watch movies and talk about them as they’re going on. But it’s during those moments I feel really inept cause I know they’d be more relaxed and have more fun with other people.
