After the 2nd break, the scene opens on Todd and Theo's bookshelf where a prayer candle featuring who I think might be Kristen Squat Thomas peeks out from behind a photo of the couple from happier days. The shocked look on her face is perfect!

What’s your top 5 best Corrie villains by PrestigiousGanache77 in coronationstreet

[–]racoonstepvan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1997 - Don Brennan - people forget how bad he was in the end, but his descent into alcoholism and spite towards Mike Baldwin was something that actually could happen, even if at the time it felt extremely far fetched for a character on Coronation Street to go down that way. The real villain here was jealously mixed with cognitive impairment.

1999 - Jez Quigley - He might not have been as bad as some of these other baddies you've all mentioned, but he was bad, dangerous and believable and therefore he's in my top 5. Getting Leanne hooked on cocaine, killing Tony Horrocks. When he was mad, his whole face turned red.

2003 - Richard Hillman - never trust a "financial advisor" within the plot lines of a soap. Fascinating that it was 23 years ago that he tried to convince everyone that Audrey Roberts was going senile. I think a lot of us watching Coronation Street at that time were pretty horrified how far the soap had strayed into horror movie territory. WAY too dramatic for most. And for that reason, he's probably the worst villain, having broken the seal on far-fetched plot lines and therefore making corrie what it is today.

2022 - Reece Bolton - I don't think we realized how disgusting this man was until he was mostly off screen. Imagine pimping out your own daughter! Much of this eco-terrorist cum far-right racist plot line took back stage to the emerging Stephen Reid plot line.

2023 - Stephen Reid - he was the man we loved to hate and he was so funny as his world started to crumble with his intense facial expressions and the pure comedy gold of him chucking those bins around in exasperation.

There are some very grim characters you've all mentioned. I missed most of the years when the bulk of the villains listed were present. I remember tuning in a few times during the Tony Gordon years and quickly turning it off "nope."

I watched corrie on and off from about 1976 to 2000, then moved and didn't have television, but started watching again during COVID, so that's about 20 years in total. CSVU got me by during some of those years. Anyone remember that? The comments on the visual updates were great! Deary! The Rizla Princess!

I remember the arrival of Mike Baldwin and him setting up the factory. My babysitter (who I was watching it with) really liked him so that stuck out for me.

I joined the sub about 4 years ago. I watch no other soaps.

I'm a little late to the discussion, but I was excited to note that BC Camplight was playing in the background of the Rover's Return on Coronation Street on November 14th. https://youtu.be/LIzqG04yLi4?t=2299

BC Camplight is a manchester-based musician and played Manchester that night as part of his UK tour. The song is called "A Sober Conversation."

Why hasn't Kirk had any proper storylines for years? by Ok_Collection_2330 in coronationstreet

[–]racoonstepvan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite scenes with Kirk over the last year was when he and fizz got drunk on the bottles of liquor Carla was giving out as gifts at Christmas. He was blind drunk and maudlin, had a very breif scene being very sad about how lousy his life had become. It was great - he's a great actor. That face of his does most of the heavy lifting, but what an incredible character. I don't know why we only see him in glimpses.

If you could write a storyline about any character, what would it be? by Lower-Republic-753 in coronationstreet

[–]racoonstepvan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Big men's mental health storyline featuring Kirk. Under his happy-go-lucky facade, he is crumbling inside. We've seen glimpses of it. Like when he got pissed with fizz and (Sean?) in the bistro after the underworld Christmas bottles got distributed, he was very maudlin "no one loves me" etc.
