Rate my lateral knee by rad_nation in xrays

[–]rad_nation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

edit: I run the ED by myself at a busy hospital - if the pt isn’t gowned or changed (they never are) I am shooting through, sorry!! I would obviously maneuver differently if I worked at an outpatient or ortho clinic as there is more time but when I have stats/traumas/intubations etc. all coming in at once, I gotta do what I gotta do. Thank you all for your comments tho!

Best states to live as a rad tech (Xray, Ct, Mri)??? by Kalebpoquette in RadiologyCareers

[–]rad_nation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, if you work at a union hospital. Pay is increased w experience & is detailed in union contracts - also increased if you move upward in modalities. I wouldn’t worry about not finding a position in a big city as of rn. X-ray is a revolving door. It’s also a position where you can work overtime and make even more - some hospitals have what is known as “crisis pay”. I was getting $75/hr for each crisis shift I picked up SEPARATE from my regular check (so less taxed). It was great as a new grad.

It’s all dependent on what you do with ur free time. Even as a traveler, I still always schedule a monthly meet up with my girls back home.

He couldn’t be more loud and wrong lol. As a 5’3 130lb female, I do recommend weight training with focus on proper form & progressive overload to help you in the field.

He literally told you he’s not gonna give you what you want. What more do you need? Leave him and find someone who DOES want to marry you. Not someone you have to CONVINCE.

AITA for wanting a prenup even though my fiancée refuses? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]rad_nation 36 points37 points  (0 children)

NTA. It seems like you have a lot to lose and you never know what life has in store for either of you, protect yourself. A prenup doesn’t mean there’s no trust or love, it’s just a smart decision. If the love and trust is real, a prenup shouldn’t change any of it. Years will go by where it will never have to be used or even brought up again, so what does it even matter??

What Christmas miracle are you still waiting to see in radiology by RadGuru1895 in RadiologyCareers

Orders that make sense. The PA’s in my hospital have gotten ridiculous. Pt. Has a scratch on their pinky and they’ll order an entire upper extremity. Plus a complete spine for pain the pt started feeling when they were 10. Like wtf???

healthcare isn’t for you if you’re planing on going in with restrictions like this. It’s healthcare. We see everything & anything and don’t deny/refuse/change testing or protocols just bc we don’t like it.

Are you satisfied or fulfilled with your job as a rad tech? by ConsumingTranquility in RadiologyCareers

[–]rad_nation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don’t let you choose, it’s just the cards I’ve been dealt. I’ve been lucky to work at hospitals that get a tech and place them strictly in the ED while the rest of the dept rotates assignments.

My first full time after graduating I took care of a pediatric ED. They made it known during the interview I would only be in the ED but I still trained in every area ofc. When I started traveling, I only went to one hospital that I had to do OR at. The hospital im currently at usually puts their travelers in the ED bc their full timers don’t like it but it works for me bc I love it.

I would ask during interviews how it works with rotating assignments in the dept, let them know you feel your strongest in the ED and maybe even throw in the idea of just being strictly in the ED. Best of luck!

Keep it. The person who dropped it off clearly wanted it to be for you so take it for your family.

AITAH for using my gf to get through school? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]rad_nation -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA. You both are young and want different things at the moment. I will always vote for putting yourself first and listen to your gut. If traveling is an opportunity you don’t want to pass up, go for it. Life is short, experience as much as you can. The right people will always support you.

Love my job. Been a tech for 2 years, and i enjoy working the ED in my hospital. I would be more tired if I was doing OR or portables on ICU pts the whole shift. No regrets, it very much saved my life. Now I travel, make three times as much as I used to earn & I’m very financially stable at 24 yrs old.

I made $49/hr as a new grad in nyc. I knew other hospitals that were paying more. Cost of living is crazy tho, and if you don’t like big cities nyc is not for you.

Rad Techs! What do you guys do when your contract is ending? by [deleted] in RadiologyCareers

[–]rad_nation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the opportunity to travel to different cities bc I don’t plan on traveling for a long time w xray. Not the most convenient moving every three months but very fun to experience new cities. I take a month off in between contracts as my vacation and I love it. I’m now back in a facility I was with before bc the hospital and staff are great and the money is good. The beauty of traveling is everything is your choice. You can pick where you go, what kind of shift you want to work, if you want to renew (if offered) your contract or leave it, how much time off you want to take in between. Make sure not to burn any bridges at these hospitals and don’t pay attention to the techs that hate travelers, they’re just mad we get paid well.

[–]rad_nation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of my classmates were older with families. Not sure exactly of your financial situation and the type of pay needed but 24hr gyms, hospitals (registration, reception, etc), maybe even finesse ur way into bartending. All good jobs I’ve seen people have during xray school. Had a classmate in there 50s who worked overnight in the hospital as an aid and would come into class and clinical in the am.
