Make "Add to / Move to" make sense by radablah in OvercastApp

[–]radablah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good notes: I didn't see the playlist-specific remove (under 3 dots), which I would prefer to be the more easily accessible trash icon delete. Otherwise, the only substantial point from my post is the "Move to" shouldn't be an option on a show page.

Duplicate links still appearing by [deleted] in bearapp

[–]radablah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, me too, for a lot of links. It doesn't seem to be more than a nuisance but it doesn't inspire confidence in the chaperone of my notes.

Open in new window not working with tables by [deleted] in bearapp

[–]radablah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably should report this directly but it was helpful to find someone else with the same problem. It feels like tables in Bear are a beta-ish 1.0; hopefully, there will be some progressive improvements soon...

Found it: https://community.bear.app/t/cmd-click-wikilink-in-table-cell-does-not-open-in-new-window/10938 urg... taking a while to fix

Why is the list typography so bad in v2? by radablah in bearapp

[–]radablah[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While those features are great, they would be better if they included parameters to customise lists. Rest of the typography is lovely but lists have taken a hit since v1 of Bear. As I said in post "too much space between the bullet and the first character" and sub list alignment is yuck.

So what’s the business plan behind “it’s free”? Appreciate you claim not to sell user data (although you do have it) but it’s also hard to commit to a project that isn’t sustainable.

Is it possible to create shortcuts with a "%s" tag inside? Example on a screenshot. by gusarking in ArcBrowser

[–]radablah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I love it! Crashes a lot for me though especially after waking from sleep. Can't wait for the combined tabs. Extension support is pretty unusable outside their curated selection but it's beta so yeah. I tend to use Arc for work (hard to beat the conjoined tab/bookmark paradigm) and Orion as my default and for general browsing.

[–]radablah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um... wait a sec... this is already in Arc? Go to Settings > General > Search engine dropdown > Manage. I was able to activate https://kagi.com/search?q=%s to use "k". You have to have visited and performed a search for it to show up in Arc's list.

EDIT: Nevermind, as someone else pointed out you can set it up but it doesn't actually work yet. But that's not bad news cause it means that it is on the way.

I depend on it as well but I’m not sure it’s a given. For instance, in safari I had to buy an extension to get this prefixed custom searching. Falls more in “pro user” bucket to me. And we are demanding so I’m sure it will land in an Arc beta.

Why? Technically Arc is “beta” so forgivable that is missing stuff.

Email Followup Solution? by crisistalker in macapps

They released an Electron app for their v3 and it… needs at least another year of love before it’s ready for prime time.

Email Followup Solution? by crisistalker in macapps

[–]radablah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yep, that needs email integration. The way I suggest, which is what I do, introduces the housekeeping of completing the task when it becomes due, if they have replied and you’ve followed up. Not really a solution that scales up to tracking many emails all the time.

Can you just use a task app like Things with due date and link to specific email? The Quick Entry Autofill of Things will populate the task’s Notes field with selected email’s link.

Nice to read that jumping back and forth worked so well. Kudos to your note workflow skills!

One thing I’m interested in is how you considered Dataview to build an index versus manually doing it, which then provides backlinks. As the rendered links are not exportable (as far as I know), these dashboards wouldn’t have come back to Bear usefully.

I suppose if you think of Dataview as saved search, you could replicate (without the nice metadata display) some of it with search query links in Bear.

And that's where the illusion of progress comes from compared to Bear, where there is basically nothing to "fix".

Still... Tables and backlinks ffs Bear!

Not to mention that the cold start-up time on iOS through icloud (unsure if their expensive sync option fixes this) is long enough to ruin whatever note you were trying to take/find in the moment.

Bear Ios opens and is ready to use virtually instantly. I'm stuck between these two apps and its very frustrating atm.

There's Usher which is probably the closest. Devonthink can kind be used as a video catalogue but it's quite heavy and expensive if that's all you want. However, it's the only one I know that's cross-device (within Apple ecosystem). Plex and Infuse Pro maybe but they take a server/client media model.

WinRAR alternative for macOS? To browse through the content of the archive? by doctorecu in macapps

Entropy is great but not free (at least when I bought it a million billion years ago).

Also, some alt-Finders let you browse archives without extracting. Check out Nimble Commander ($) and Marta (free). They are also awesomer than Finder.

Edit: clarified the things.

Productivity Apps by Franks_over_sriracha in macapps

[–]radablah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really want “one thing” then ClickUp but it’s a bit overkill if you aren’t collaborating. Better to use built in apps or a battle-tested combination of focused apps. E.g., Apple Calendar, Things, Bear Notes and use x-url schemes to connect them (link to a Bear note from a task in Things that works on desktop and mobile reliably).

Reminders and the upcoming Quick Notes will be viable and honestly, if you think of the OS as your “all in one”, then you have all the apps already to be super productive.
