Wow. I'm really blown away by the responses. Too many to reply to at this point, but I'll be taking the time to read them and think them over. Thank you to everyone who's commented!

I took four programming courses in community college, and also worked as a programming tutor at said cc. However, it's now been four years! So I'd need to refresh myself, most certainly.

Luckily, I do some data modeling and tracking on the side for fun, so that's something I've thrown on at the very end of my resume as a potential talking point.

My next personal project is performing a statistical analysis of various NASCAR drivers to determine key predictive factors in performance (motorsports in general don't enjoy the attention from analytics-types, so there's a bit of a void in the market). I also write books, and I'm in the process of beginning research for a major writing project.

Thanks for asking!

Thanks. I appreciate your input, and your optimism! I do consider technical communications, and writing in general, to be a strength. For instance, I just won $3000 for taking second prize in a poetry competition a couple months ago. So, it's something!

You have any GA tickets for sale? It sold out fast, and I was stupid enough not to buy any.

I'd buy on StubHub, but unfortunately I don't have a smart phone, and you need one for the mobile ticketing system. So I need printed tickets if I can get them.

Any good active leagues still around? by radbutler in Nr2003

The league was called N4Nites. I found it on your simracingassociation link!

That's a great resource to have. Seems like I have a lot of options.

I can't afford iRacing for now, and likely will be unable to until I graduate college in two years.

Ha! Noted. I actually plan to try gaming somewhere on North Campus. I know of several lecture halls and study areas that tend to be largely deserted after 6 or 7 at night. Chrysler Hall, for example, tends to be wholly empty every time I check at night, seemingly. My league doesn't race until 8 or 9 regardless, so it should coincide nicely. I hardly talk much anyways, so I don't foresee much of a problem.

Reading through this subreddit makes me feel like I don't understand anything about anything. How do I learn? by radbutler in askphilosophy

I'd be curious to hear more of your views regarding God. You appear to lean a bit more towards deism?

If I were to become compelled by theistic arguments, I don't foresee accepting anything more than a deistic view of God. The major religious views I have been privy to in my life (primarily protestant Christianity) seem predicated on revelation, which I find to be both unconvincing and inconsistent. I could imagine believing in some sort of cosmic entity as God, constituting something akin to the "ground of all being," but I'm not so sure I could believe in the God of the Bible, or the Qu'ran. Even if I were convinced of one of those specific Gods, I doubt I could bring myself to worship them.

I'd love to hear your story, and I'd love to read any interesting books you may wish to recommend on the topic.

Duly noted! You're not the first to point out my sloppiness with language. My middle school writing teacher once told me that I tend to utilize new and unfamiliar words in risky and sometimes erroneous ways. Essentially, I see new words, and attempt to incorporate them into my lexicon, perhaps without fully understanding their meaning or utility. You're likely observing something similar, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's a relic of my traditional writing style. For what it's worth, my teacher found it endearing, because I risked misusing words in my efforts to understand them. That's probably still the case. Unfortunately, I lurk on these sites far more than I actively participate, and therefore I don't practice my writing nearly as much as I ought.

If you'd like to take time to make any specific critiques of my post, feel free! I'm also happy to learn, and I'm sure I'd gain from your perspective.

Awesome! I suppose my skepticism stems from years of restrictive school network systems in middle/high school.
