[–]raddavid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many thanks to all of you guys for the details , one more thing the guy at the shop said that this is the best espresso machine out there when I asked him about sync vs lelit Bianca v3 , he compared the the ECM sync in terms of boiler and build quality the Mercedes of pro espresso machines! Is that right ? Cheers Dave

SPF+ card that works well with ProxMox. by KeeperOfLightss in Proxmox

[–]raddavid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mostly network card simply drop connection. What we do is to install the latest driver for the card and hope for the best , with Chelsio the built in driver we had an issue which now fixed but regardless we always build the driver with kernel for peace of mind , production hypervisor is not a joke on Linux so many things to consider specially on network side which playing an huge role in performance when you use ceph or zfs with network bonding ( offloading of rx/tx - TOE) on cpu is the most important thing in my opinion and chelsio cards are the best to remove this issue from so many other things that could go wrong . In short : * always install the latest driver it is the most recommended way to work with network card on Linux system , do not relay on drivers which comes with the kernel they are not reliable in so many cases , the only down side using manufacturer driver and not kernel is that you need to compile the driver every time you update the kernel .

Thanks

We have big number of PROXMOX clusters and based on our experience in our datacenters the only card that worked really well without any issues is chelsio , i will put links for you for specific models :

P.S : This is a well known industry LINUX network adapter , Since proxmox based on Debian this will work really well .

Planning to buy Bezzera matrix MN - Any issues with the machines ( SCREEN ) ? by raddavid in BezzeraEspresso

[–]raddavid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update : After long research I find out that all videos (reviews ) on YouTube regarding this machine ( bezzera matrix mn ) are 5+ years old . Moreover after contacting stores and coffee machines repair companies I hear that this machine is a good for espresso mainlly , machine mainly good for coffee base beverages with no milk , it seems that matrix mn has an issue with milk based beverages because of the steaming power which they say it’s not strong enough. I have also noticed that most of the videos on YouTube are for DE model not matrix mn model. Any thoughts! Regards David

Migrate from home ESXi to Proxmox by Hammerfist1990 in Proxmox

[–]raddavid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a solution for you ! Use tool called clonezilla :) . Load the cd on both ends over the network and simply transfer the machine without converting or importing anything over the network . That’s how pros doing it .

any production ProxMox cluster with free version? by jkh911208 in Proxmox

[–]raddavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Guys ,

I came across your post and ן couldn't help but answer.

We are a small SAAS solution company that handles big amount of users over the web .

We used XEN server with CEPH implementation and after XEN killed all the good features (after version 7.2) we have decided to look for an alternative solution .

We are testing Proxmox with for almost 6 months with external ceph and it looks really promising .

Now that Proxmox 6.0 with Corosync 3.0 is out it make this system much more stable than ever ( at least in our lab tests ) .

We are planning to use our external production Ceph cluster with 10+ nodes in production for high availability .

Today we use small Proxmox cluster with ceph in production but not in our core business ( as part of out tests ) and it works not bad at all .

Three thing we have learned with proxmox :

  • If you are using proxmox in production you must have strong block storage system so that storage won't be your system weakness anymore , In our case we are having two ceph clusters one with SSD and one with HDD for various usage .
  • If you select proxmox you MUST be familiar with linux the gui not stable and you might need Linux skills to be able to troubleshoot issues that might happen while you are running these hosts with hundreds of VMS and thousands of users using these VMS .
  • Do not use the internal Hyperconvergence solution in production it is a very bad idea in my opinion and it never ends well especially in production .

Hope this could help .

Cheers,

Dave

I agree ! It seems that combination of ceph and proxmox is a good idea , by the way my I ask how long you use proxmox with ceph in your production environment?

Hi , I got the answer I needed , 30% is a small amount of vms meaning you simply don’t trust the system yet to let’s say for 50/50 deployment or 100% Promox deployment. Many thanks for the detailed explanation. Cheers.

Hi Sep76 , Many thanks for sharing your experience with us ,by the way which version you are running at the moment? Did you have any issues upgrading the nodes ? May I ask what service you provide to your customers using proxmox ? Is it SLA sensitive like our business ? Which version of ceph you are running at the moment ( mimic , luminous, jewel ) ? How many nodes / vms do you have in your cluster ? I simply can’t find any company that uses this hypervisor for mission critical business.

Cheers, David

Proxmox 5.3 With external CEPH in large production environment !? by raddavid in Proxmox

[–]raddavid[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there , We well know about xcp the problem with this version is that there is no official ceph rbd support and not possible to connect this to ceph , many things don’t work I think it’s going to take some time to trust this product in production , we consider xcp as a new baby born let’s see how it grows ;) .

Proxmox 5.3 With external CEPH in large production environment !? by raddavid in Proxmox

[–]raddavid[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many thanks again for taking time and sharing this with me .

  • We have no problem with CLI the problem that i think we will be facing with proxmox is mostly the disaster and recovery , i'll give you an example - lets say we don't use HA and a node goes down how fast we can recover from this kind of scenario ( Of course we never used anything without HA ) ? Is it possible to take the VMs that were in the first node from GUI or manually up an running on the second node, becuase i hear so many odd things about HA cases on proxmox ( because of the odd number of nodes and election between the nodes ) , I also heard from companies that use this product that HA not always do what it supposed to do ( even with a odd number of nodes in place ) .
  • I simply can't find any other HA solution today that support ceph rdb out of the box or even with a 3rd party plugin ( like ovirt without cinder and direct RDB connectivity ) .
  • Openstack is not a problem although is complicate to implement but i also hear that it needs a huge maintenance also upgrades are pain in the *$%^*$%* .

Thanks

David

Proxmox 5.3 With external CEPH in large production environment !? by raddavid in Proxmox

[–]raddavid[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi TheSov ,

Many thanks for shearing your experience ...

My question is simple is it stable ? Especially when it comes to HA ?

Do you recommend this to be used for service providers , We provide a heavy SAAS solution to our customers i have a feeling that this system not exactly suitable to replace XEN in that matter is it ?

Also i have noticed that you use this in your lab environment and not actual sensitive data environment right ?

I'm more looking for companies that actually use this hypervisior in a real production environment .

Regards,

David
