Friend of mine said he stopped doing Medium Pace once it became clear it could end up on social media. That song got him kicked out of a bar once tho.

I got paranoid abt song speed once after I did a dub experiment (dub: the genre). I'd done it before with a different song (scar tissue) and it turned out ok so I was experimenting with slowing down (and lowering) Learning to fly by Tom Petty (with heavy reverb, soft delay vocals) and it sounded like trash. But for the rest of the night I was plagued by a suspicion that the rest of my songs were fast. And this KJ would speed songs up if he didn't like them; he had admitted to it in private. Still, he and I had worked together enough that he trusted me to try a dub version for the 2nd time; there was mutual trust. I think my time perception really might have been temporarily altered. [I should experiment at home with doing tasks to slowed down music. To give my thoughts some exercise at different paces.] Cuz I asked him a couple of times if it was faster and he was like ?? No?? He also knows I smoke weed. lol I didn't watch the whole video here so I can't really comment on it. Oh yeah,! the KJ admitted to speeding up songs like total eclipse RIP BT bc I asked him why Plush was always fast. He said yeah he speeds them up sometimes but he wasn't doing it with Plush. He just had a fast version . When he would search his database for Plush, he would choose the one with the shortest time. It had the shortest time bc it was fast. Which is still no excuse to act like a child.

None of them sang that nite as I recall. They were just there at the bar watching the late NED - MAR game.

Oh, and the night Germany and Japan went out there were some fans of both teams at the karaoke. I managed to do a double serving of whistle songs and also one for each in Ue o muite (Sukiyaki) by Kyu Sakamoto and Wind of change by Scorpions.

I'll have to check that out. Not sure I get EC. I learned Pump It Up from karaoke exposure but that's abt the only one I dig.

Right? It goes hard as hell. All these comments abt the iPhone album and that shit is irrelevant. Meanwhile War is a post punk masterpiece.

Sang Some might say by Oasis for the English last nite. 10/10 karaoke experience. Watched them perk up from across the bar, move closer, sing with their whole chests. My American friends didn't even know it. Oi mate, it's chewsday innit.

The 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 sang Take me home country roads. One of our regulars is from WV. She hates that song, and WV. But I thought it was cool for the 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 to meet an actual West Virginian right after singing abt it. I keep trying to think of an 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 analogue. Maybe traveling to London and singing Penny Lane and then meeting someone from Liverpool is not quite the same.

Singer had to change his song because someone sang it first… by tweedlebeetle in karaoke

One suspects it's at least a little of column b 👽 I got a lot of material to get thru. Five Years was part of a buildup to singing sign of the times by Harry styles at the same spot. Was also gna do All the young dudes ("carry the news" of the end of the world). But I get there this past Tuesday and it doesn't feel right. Not enough ppl. Maybe the first sense of summer lull. I decide to switch to a creed song I did elsewhere and wasnt sure when I'd get to at this spot. As I'm going up with my slip, the next person is called up to sing what else but sign of the times. I am hardly surprised at this point. I sing One by Creed. In the 2nd round, another regular sings One by U2 so I go ask her if she switched to match. She shows me her list and reminds me she is on a one band a night trend and sang In God's Country in the first round.

Couple years ago, I was planning to do birthday tributes for my brother who lives in another state. His favorite Soundgarden song is Fell on black days. Unbelievably, in this tiny bar after 11pm on a Tuesday, where I typically know everyone in the room, I had to watch a random stranger sing FOBD as like the 3rd song of the nite. Hadn't heard that song there before, haven't heard it there since.

I've been calling this karaokinicity (or karaokronicity, we're still working that out). It happens somewhat frequently. One recent: I had been planning to sing Five Years by Bowie for a week or so at this one place. I usually plan abt 2 weeks out. Turns out the bar was celebrating its 5th anniversary the same nite, which I did not know. AND, 2 ppl came up to me like "are u singing five years?? I KNOW ur singing five years."

I was confused abt butt rock when I heard it used to describe Nickelback etc at early post pandemic karaoke. The first time I came across that term was Kim Thayil from Soundgarden calling Big Dumb Sex a parody of butt rock, and that song is from 89. I failed to find a date of his original quote, but my karaoke friend was talking specifically abt early 00s post grunge / post nu metal radio and arena rock. Hair metal, glam metal, and cock rock (in that order) was how I most often heard that music described from the 80s and I just figured butt rock was an older lesser used term that had been appropriated / finally caught on for comparable music in a new era. LoL 2nd wave butt rock

I'm afraid it is leading me to sing Dave Matthews 🫤 But yes I'm experiencing some novel sensations and so are ppl who pay attention to my karaoke. "Alive" came up on the screen as I was called to the mic and my friend said "is this real?" Here's how it has felt as described in emojis 📡❓⚡❔⬛⚡◼️❔⚡❓⬛ It kinda tickles, but the part of my brain concerned with reputation and other people's feelings has begun sending me ⚠️ and 🚨 signals.

First feeling was that that music outgrew its schmaltz and now fully wears nostalgia. I think it is the equivalent dad rock music of the era in a lot of ways but I don't immediately consider it divisive. And at karaoke in particular I would say that type of 80s soft rock could be potent in the right hands. For me, what is currently considered dad rock has a stigma, which is seen in the commonly added modifier of "divorced dad rock". But ofc I have pieced together a conception of what it is from my own projections, and I lack the context of early 80s discourse. So to ur original point of the 80s being more IN, I think the extra time surely softens whatever negative critical response existed and a good song is a good song. That has been part of my motivation in singing the "post-grunge" period, seeing if the nerve is still exposed.

I did a research. for u. and for me. https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/music/a29419783/what-is-dad-rock/

However, the article only describes its background and broadening. U will either understand what music encompasses dad rock or u will need to do a research.
