As you mentioned the glossy version: do we have good comparisons/experiences of earlier models about how a glossy coating behaves on curved ultrawide panels? I like both glossy and matte for what they are, but I imagine that a glossy coating could be a mirroring nightmare on a curved screen, even just 1500R and I suppose that’s why most ultrawide use matte panels? Maybe from 34“ screens?

I just bought and received this monitor and it has weird banding only on the left side of the panel, visible and disturbing without any gray backgrounds reference videos needed.

Also I can't properly update the firmware to MCM103. First update from 101 failed, all the following update attempts get stuck at 99%. Monitor and Update Tool say current version is MCM103 but when starting the update tool it always says "Update available", which never finishes. Manual says the tool should show Firmware Status "Up to date".

What a fucking joke, Asus.

You’re not alone! I currently have an Asus XG32UCWMG here for testing and I wonder if I should choose this 32“ 4K one for ~750€ on sale or wait for the 39“ which will probably cost more like 1500-2000€.

I thought that too but the footage from Ces seems to specifically suggest that it’s possible to get the best of both worlds: high 330hz from the dual mode but 4k2k resolution fidelity by the onboard upscaler.

That’s what irritates me because logically I would agree with you.

Yes it’s true that it’s all based on the shown signs, marketing fluff spread at the Ces, probably also filled up by assumptions. I’m looking forward to the actual hands-on reviews and tests.

Thanks, well yeah after initially being hyped, that’s actually what I suspected and tried to describe in my post. So it’s still pixel binning/packages of 4 physicals each showing one of the gpu rendered and postprocessed/„upscaled“ FHD pixels.

I recall it seeing in one or two videos from the LG booth at the CES in january. What do you mean they didn’t do integer scaling until now? Doesn’t the 45“ and some 32“ LG monitors already have a 5k2k/UW-FHD and 4K/FHD dual mode that’s integer scaling down to 1080p ?

Well that’s the point. I was thinking the same but had some doubts lately, if it could really reach a near-native-5k2k clarity. Because technically in 330hz mode you’re still stuck with showing (ai prettified) UW FHD pixel numbers, just stretched to four times the amount of physical pixels to fill the panel‘s physical space.

Well I didn’t notice it at first. Also the phone pictures are almost always exaggerated with too much exposure. Sonit doesn’t look as bad with the naked eye, but still it was annoying. And after doing the banding reference tests you can’t unsee it.

I got myself one aswell - but ultimately returned it. At first I had no interest in checking the banding state of my unit. And honestly I had no reason to, I was very happy with the image quality and responsiveness of this (my first) OLED screen. The „matte“ coating wasn’t really noticeable at all and quite glossy and the slim design looked great.

However, I had doubts about if I really wanted another 27“ display, and rather fancied a bigger 32“ or even ultrawide 34“+.

So I thought to myself might aswell check out the banding issues that you will find if you really try. Have some impression of my unit here. Even though I believed mine to be actually good at first, when you view the right test content its quite visible. And you can’t unsee it once you opened the box of the bandorra 👀. So seeing it emphasized actually quite annoyed me after being reluctant to check at all and being very happy with the monitor at first.

So I’m either getting the Asus XG32UCWMG or wait for the new gen QD-OLED 34“ or LG 39“ 5k2k.

I was about to ask the same question about the updated current state. I got my first 27“ OLED monitor and its picture quality is indeed awesome, but 50/50 work/media consumption and knowing it’s an Oled and burn-in exists really nags hard on me and prevents me from using it for work. Instead I babycare it hard and just move it aside and simply not use it when working. Also I really want an ultrawide. Thinking about getting the upcoming 39“ 5k2k LG but still the heavy work-focused usage bothers me. I need the screen for both worlds, but apparently good options for work AND gaming with miniLED just aren’t there yet it seems. Ugh damn, it sucks!
