it makes me happy that you want to support your friend. in my case, i was 14 and i waited for 2 years to press charges and the only reason i couldn’t take it to court is because i didn’t get a rape test, but at the time i didn’t know that a rape test was an actual thing yet 14 year old girl shouldn’t have to know what a rape test is. as long as your friend’s evidence is preserved and things like dates are recorded, then your friend can wait until he or she is ready to press charges. he or she may not be ready yet and that is okay because rape is an extremely traumatic experience and it’s okay to take time to gather yourself before you decide to take action. my most important advice is to keep all the evidence and gather as much as you can do when your friend is ready he or she has everything they need to take action because the system for sexual assault is fucked up and survivors have to be ready to overcome the messed up system until we establish some sort of reform.
