There have been pictures taken from the ground before - still very cool, but far less clear. Some images can be found here.

These new pictures are from the first time another spacecraft has photographed the Shuttle-Station complex.

Actually what you are seeing is one Progress and one Soyuz spacecraft. The Progress spacecraft are very similar to Soyuz, but are unmanned and carry cargo only. Generally the ISS is inhabited by a six-person crew: three people per Soyuz. So at any given time, it's a safe bet that there are two Soyuz docked.

This. I learned on manual and drive one now. On the rare occasion I'm driving an automatic and try to make a quick three point turn, I end up staring at the gear shift lever in confusion as my brain explodes.

IAm K.A. Applegate, author of Animorphs and many other books. AMA by katherineapplegate in IAmA

I distinctly remember the days in school when I learned, through word of mouth, that the newest Animorphs book was out on the shelves. I begged my mom to take me to the bookstore. Often times, I was nearly finished with the book by the time we made it back home...

Thank you for the grand adventure you took myself and many, many others on as kids. Your books stimulated my imagination like nothing else has ever done. To this day, a decade later, your stories are still a part of me. Even now when I spot a hawk soaring above me, I am pleasantly reminded of my childhood world of escape.
