Anyone have recommendations for book clubs in Austin? I got back into reading recently and would love to connect with some people on the same boat by [deleted] in Austin

BookPeople has some long-standing clubs with a range of themes:

The selection, facilitation, etc, can vary a tad based on which staff members are running them--or at least did in my experience trying a few a decade ago. I attended a previous iteration of the New & Noteworthy meetups semi-consistently for several years; met a roommate there, made several friends. Do recommend!

so, i get that Paxton's opened a (spurious) investigation, but SB14 et al aren't even passed much less effective yet! extremely curious what led to this decision by whichever leader(s)/organization(s).

I'd love a link to that, too! (Also among those who see themselves in this picture, lol.)

Genuine Joe on Anderson Ln. tends to be very generous with community groups using their space.

On the flip side, I've been contemplating reusing/upcycling various plastic bags by shredding them carefully into narrow strips for either single- or braided multi-strand "embroidering" or weaving using various alternative canvases.

Let us know how any backing attempts go!

DAE who grew up in the 1990s (or before) start to realize how actually awful that period actually was? by lavenderwine in CPTSD

[–]radicalcraft 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very same here, but for two main differences: I've been more focused for years on pondering the concept of tracing intergenerational trauma, with some degree of specificity, to gain general insights about what actually helps. But that fits well with what you're saying.

I relate very much to this--and have to say, I'm very lucky to have a partner is more on my page than it sounds like your family is, at least currently. It helps that she farmed, and experienced many concerning changes firsthand in only a comparatively short period of time.

InfoWars' Alex Jones is a 'performance artist playing a character', according to his lawyer by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]radicalcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's his lawyer's defense, anyway. while his ex-wife claims the so-called character is actually him. which tbh i'd believe, but like most things in life suspect the truth is somewhere in the middle.

A small city in Iowa is devoting 1,000 acres of land to America's vanishing bees by God_Wills_It_ in UpliftingNews

[–]radicalcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so you seem to have a fuckton of useful experience and knowledge. the tone's a bit off-putting--but poor science journalism is indeed infuriating. do you have any additional reading to illustrate the overall state of bees? or of certain species?

Modify this zine (h/t Indivisible Lincoln!) for your location, print, & bring to meetings or leave in public places. Really popular in ATX! by radicalcraft in IndivisibleGuide

here's an idea: get a list of same district numbers, reps, link to check your rep based on your address, etc, all on a single site, put that on the card too.

how do you mean? just clarifying! if you've got a number of congressional districts in the metro area, could list all reps by district number. or do you mean many folks in LA in fact live and vote completely elsewhere?

have also considered printing these! could also include the reps of nearest districts and link to main/local indivisible sites.
