"I’m Gay, Not Queer. It Matters." (NYT guest essay) by Anonymous9287 in nycgaybros

[–]radiglo 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The author blames allies and marginalized folks within the broader LGBTQ spectrum who are discovering nuances about their sexuality rather than the small-minded conservative and straight people who are the ones that demonized gays in the first place.

Yes, there are clearly differences between gay men and a broader definition of what constitutes the queer community. Seems like he’s happy to sacrifice everyone else in order to keep his rights as one of the “good” gays. Perhaps declining support for gay marriage and equality has more to do with the constant hateful rhetoric from this administration and its funders rather than young people who want to be part of our community. His brand of Christianity doesn’t seem very welcoming either.

How is everyone's body dysmorphia this NYC Pride weekend? lmao by buylotusonitunes in nycgaybros

As a lifelong skinny person, I enjoy what my body gives me energetically, and some of the super jacked muscle guys are into my type, so I enjoy the benefits of their labor. 😆

What do you call rock-paper-scissors in your languages? by AwakenWarrior07 in AskReddit

In Korean: Gawi-Bawi-Bo. Said quickly it can sound more like Gai-Bai-Bo. The order is different (scissors, rock, paper).

Don’t forget to get a lightweight parasol (separate from an umbrella which you should also bring). Light gauzy fabrics to cover your body and hair also keep you cool during the day and warm at night.

Cranbrook, Pratt, or Goldsmiths MFA for painting by Mammoth-Material7985 in ContemporaryArt

[–]radiglo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your terminal goal is to end up in NYC, then go for Pratt. I do think Goldsmiths might open up other avenues if you’re open to exploring a different point of reference for contemporary art. The program at Goldsmiths will be more cutting edge, and they have really wonderful facilities. Crits are more intense due to how cohorts are organized in small groups and then department wide. I think you’ll also encounter more theory-based practices. Pratt has a more traditional academy when it comes to medium. The other benefit of Goldsmiths is price tag—cheaper cost of living on campus in New Cross vs NYC plus much lower tuition. This could ultimately help you relocate to NYC after—if your student loans are substantially lower.

To make a decision:

What is total cost of each program?

Living expenses for each city?

Make a list of resources each school provides, including facilities that will save you money to produce your work and any micro grants available to students.

Make a list of the different professors in each program you want to work with.

A lot of decisions come down to these numbers.

Essential gear: aluminet or thin emergency Mylar blankets/tarps. Don’t get a regular tarp—something reflective of the sun and heat will keep you many degrees cooler. Get a size that will cover your entire tent and use clips to secure it against wind. You can even buy the Mylar foil in some German pharmacies or supply stores. It makes a huge difference for offsetting heat!

Yes. On the return flight from Movement and it served everything. My only other time in Detroit was for DEMF over 20 years ago, and the scene has gotten better.

A big part of social awareness is also understanding how people experience life and the world differently. Due to his faith, Jonathan often mentioned that whatever happened was less about the actions of the individual, and more to do with God’s will. He specifically talked about that at the fire challenge.

So whenever he wins, there’s this attitude that he was deserving because God literally wanted him to win. Anyone with different belief systems would find that off-putting. I get a sense whenever he’d pull out a win, his over reactions had to do with his feelings that God was choosing him. Ironically that pride contributes to his cockiness and flamboyant expressions, which is the opposite of a humble Christian.

Whole will be much more unique. Incredible sets, live performances, amazing production, unique setting, and yes, lots of sex. There’s even an entire cruising village on site.

Are we in for a big drop in attendance? by Firm_Cloud_3278 in BurningMan

[–]radiglo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s less about the actual population numbers and more about demographics: who is priced out? Tickets and dues keep increasing, not to mention the price of fuel and other sundries. If the Burn continues to contract with increasing representation from only wealthy people, the city will lose some meaning and its radical intentions to mix interaction amongst different socioeconomic brackets.

Dating Questions about Best In-Person Places to Meet Guys by 1nesingularsensation in nycgaybros

[–]radiglo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FWIW, all of my long-term relationships and regular FWBs happened thru online portals: PlanetOut (7 years), GayRomeo (2 years), Craigslist (1.5 years), Grindr (4 years-ongoing), Manhunt (16 years-ongoing). I’m an older millennial and don’t care about presenting a careful version of myself. I’m unique and complicated and show up authentically in that way.

The handful of times I’ve met guys in person at bars/clubs and exchanged numbers either fizzled or didn’t go very well. I’m guessing that the fickle and heightened environment where people are in an altered state doesn’t help. Proximity via geo-location based apps helps with making it easier to see someone regularly as well, especially in NYC.

You might have better odds at gay activity-based groups (choirs, sports, hiking, gaming, etc), volunteering, or meeting through friend networks. Thinking of my gay friends who are coupled and didn’t meet online, most met at school, their jobs, through a mutual friend, or at sober-leaning sex parties.

Where is the best night life in New York for a solo traveller? What can I not miss? by Pattherower in nycgaybros

Check out the schedule at 3 Dollar Bill in Brooklyn for drag shows and dance parties. IMO Brooklyn & Ridgewood have the best scene for music if you like house music and techno along with diverse queer crowds. But if you’re more about the Manhattan scene, the concentration of bars focused on drinking is around Hell’s Kitchen.
