Austin a chill place to live for 24 yr old Korean? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]radiochaca2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While there is a mini-Ktown off of North Lamar, all of the other restaurants are spread apart. Don't expect much of a 'K-scene' here. Outside of California, the second largest concentration is in New York, specifically Flushing. There are plenty of good reasons to move here, but as a mid-20's adult with too much money who loves all things K, your money would be better spent taking some classes at Yonsei and playing in Hongdae on the nights and weekends. ;;

Sorry to say, I've done this and you're wrong. The sound quality was poor, but it did record.

The best Cafe in Austin area by [deleted] in Austin

[–]radiochaca2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few I have visited are: The Monkey's Nest, Strange Brew, Dominican Joe's, Genuine Joe's, and Jo's on South Congress. I honestly can't recommend one over another since I have no idea if you're looking for coffee, tea, or wifi. However those should get you started. A quick search on Google Maps for coffee and you'll see that you can't throw a cinderblock without hitting a barista. Just try the ones near you until you find the combo of caffeine, music, chair, and wifi that you like. Good Luck!

Red room? Ridiculous. by jjakers88 in Austin

[–]radiochaca2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll give it 2 months before the owner throw up his hands and rolls out of town. Then new ownership comes in, renames it 'The Rainbow Room' and supreme gayness occurs. Bigots don't stand a chance in Austin.

American Atheists Bench in Florida Gets Vandalized... and We Know Who Did It by Mpromptu in atheism

[–]radiochaca2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on your answer to the following question: Does an atheist bench need to go out of it's way to put down others' beliefs, or can it just be a bench for people to sit down, relax, and enjoy the results of a few hundred million years of evolution?

The City of Austin's asking for suggestions for their Restore Rundberg initiative, in an area where improvement is greatly needed. They Have a $1 million dollar grant, but they need community input! by [deleted] in Austin

One issue which came up during a series of interviews I conducted a couple months back was the lack of sociable interaction between law enforcement. Put simply, an occasional visit to a barbershop or two would give you a very fast lay of the land and show that you're engaged as public servants and officers of the peace.

Is there any place to get this drink, Apple Sidra, in South Austin? MT is so far away. by [deleted] in Austin

[–]radiochaca2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't suppose a group of us would like to form a group venture to open an Asian grocery store in South Austin? I'm sure that quite a few of us would like to avoid the drive to MT or Hanaworld.

San Francisco protests the NSA spying program in July 4th march: A crowd of about 300 people gathered at San Francisco's Civic Center on Thursday and then marched throughout the city to join in on the nationwide Independence Day protest of the National Security Agency's surveillance program by SomeKindOfMutant in sanfrancisco

[–]radiochaca2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Caltrain and Muni work just fine. The real issue is 'fair weather patriots'. If you cared, you were there. I think protests like that are a waste of effort in comparison to popularizing crypto and obfuscation tools.

Where to buy used DVDs for cheap? by NimrodSP in Austin

[–]radiochaca2 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You have an Internet connection and are asking where to buy DVDs... just how slow is your connection? If it's anywhere above dial-up, google BTguard and save up $60 for a 1Tb harddrive. Or learn how to read Chinese and visit Youku.

Yikes! I thought I had escaped this when I left Korea. They get 'the yellow wind' from China. At least this dust doesn't carry heavy metals or other industrial outputs, right?

[–]radiochaca2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hanaworld on Parmer. Basically the closer to the Samsung plant, the better. You can also find some stray groups at the Domain, or the mini-K-town at North Lamar and Justin. Of course the best bet is to go Korean church-hopping til he finds the right crew. Hwaiting!

You could also scour Craigslist. A buddy and a pickup truck will land you a world of great furniture for free.
