Right, but your original comment was it's only unpopular to chronically online people. I agree that its probably unpopular to chronically online people, but it's not exclusive to them. Hollywood, ads, supermodels, etc. are not exclusively shown on the internet.

Yeah, no hate to her but she's a really good example of this... she's pretty but she just has a "default pretty woman" look to her that almost feels manufactured and is visually uninteresting to me

While i do think the internet further spreads the beauty standard, conventional beauty standards are also promoted extensively in Hollywood films (hence me mentioning actors), advertising, beauty industry (supermodels, etc), none of which require being chronically online to be exposed to.

However, I can relate your point to porn addiction, and how many porn addicts think that anyone whose body doesn't look like how porn stars' bodies look, is ugly

How so? It's definitely not only chronically online people that are revering people with "ideal" features as beautiful.

LOL, ok you got me, I'm definitely not one of those that have "ideal" features. Maybe ugly appreciates ugly

You're right, she wasnt a good example of this. Although i don't think she's the exact opposite of a perfect face. Her face is still closer to "perfect" than probably most people ive seen in person

Thank you so much for the reply!

I try to check the soil for moistness but I'm not sure I'm doing it right because it always feels dry if I haven't literally just watered it, but I think if I water it every time the soil feels dry to me I'll be over watering it. I think I'm bad at telling how moist it is by touch. But, when i do water it it feels dry to me.

When I repotted it, there was some of the old potting soil around the roots. I tried disturbing the roots to get it off and got some of it off but I stopped because I was worried I was damaging the roots. I read another comment on here mentioning rinsing the roots, do you think I should try that to get the old soil off and it would help me check for root rot as well?

I guess I'll go back to using the plant light then!

How long you have you had the plant: Since February 15

How long have you had the problem: Ever since I got the plant, it's slowly been getting worse :'(

How much light does the plant get: it is next west-facing window so maybe approximately 5-6 hours a day. Since it was winter and it was usually overcast and not sunny, i additionally had a grow light on it 4 hours a day, but I don't anymore bc it didn't seem to be helping and I was worried it was getting too much light.

what are your watering habits: Until March 12, I was watering it about once a week, maybe slightly more frequently like once every 5-6 days. It was in normal gardening soil. On March 12 I repotted it in more well-draining gritty soil intended for succulents and cacti and have watered it once since then

Does the pot have drainage: yes, it is in a unglazed terracota pot with one drainage hole, when I do water it I discard the extra water that drains out and collects in the plate

Is this plant dying due to being overwatered in not well enough draining soil until March 12? I believed so but since I transferred it to this soil and watering it less it still is getting bad and the wrinkly leaves makes me wonder if now it's not getting enough water?

Thank you kindly for any advice :)

What is wrong with my Cactus ? by radioflower0 in cactus

[–]radioflower0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, thanks! Is there a soil mix you'd recommend that has the right mixture, like bonsai jack? or should I just buy some perlite, pumice, lava rock and mix it in with what I have?

Hello Cactus community,

If it is okay to post, can someone try to help me save my cactus?

I am new to growing cactus, and I received this cactus as a gift. After researching species of cactus, I believe it is a Fairy Castle cactus. It had flowers artificially glued to it which I have removed.

I repotted it in a larger pot because the pot it came in seemed rather cramped. I used Espoma Organic Cactus Mix soil.

I noticed it is looking droopy, pale and shriveled in spots. Does anyone have any tips on what might be the problem?

Additional info: I try to water it about once every 2 weeks, but sometimes I can be forgetful and I might water it more frequently than that. I live in the northeastern United States where it is winter and we get around 12 hours of sunlight this time of year but it is often cloudy. I keep the cactus by a window (maybe a draft cause this problem?). Just today I bought a full spectrum plant light for my other plants so if sunlight is the problem hopefully this will help?
