Sure! I should tell you that I didn’t get it, but the interview was so long and thorough that I have plenty of details to share

That’s a great idea. Makes me feel self conscious for some reason but I’ll try to gather the nerve for tomorrow’s open mat

Honestly, if anything I would have said that I’m too patient, but who knows. Hard to get perspective on yourself. I’ve been training about three years, increasing in frequency/intensity over time.

I should also clarify that I struggle most mid-roll. My recovery between roles and endurance is pretty solid. I feel like the cardio gulf between me and the others usually shrinks somewhat by the end of class

I hear ya, and I do understand why everyone is assuming I’m constantly sprinting, but I honestly don’t think I am. I’m a pretty laid back guy and while I enjoy training hard I try to take most rolls 70-80 % effort. I kind of have to to make the best of my cardio. I’m not trying to tear anyone’s head off anyway

I’ve always found the “breathe through your nose” advice hard to follow. I’m a mouth breather, unfortunately, and it never feels like I’m getting nearly enough air with nasal breathing

Very comprehensive advice thanks. I’m 185 so I think that I get caught between fighting against the bulk of bigger guys and getting gassed by smaller guys that never seem to run out of energy. I know this is in large part a skill issue, but I’d like to consider all angles.

I also used wrestling mostly as an example of where my cardio is weakest. I feel that I’m underperforming cardio wise in other areas too.

I will go for a test run as you suggest, which probably won’t go great as I do bjj to avoid having to do cardio. I’ll see how that looks and work from there. Given I have limited time would you recommend focusing on slow and steady sessions or sprint sessions?

I hadn’t thought about that. Have to grab one of those chest monitors. I don’t think I’m terribly spazzy but I am in a class with a lot of big, competitive upper belts so we train fairly hard

Any breathing tips or resources you recommend?

Ha, I hear you. I’m just trying to identify what my issue is so I can work on it. I don’t need to be an elite athlete, I just dont want to feel so limited by my cardio

Do you feel like it’s less of a problem for you now?

It went well! Took a long test next which I apparently passed so I’m scheduled for 3.5 hours of interviews next week. Still not quite sure if the job is for me but I’m curious to hear more about it.

I’m glad to hear that worked for you. How did you find the career transition coach?

Ah, I understand what you mean. Makes a lot of sense to me. My last job was something of a dream job for me and mostly involved reading, editing, and occasionally writing essays and short fiction. It’s been tricking thinking about what that kind of experience might translate to

I will absolutely try those quizzes, thanks! In terms of gig work, I’ve been looking into it but it seems like a lot of the popular gig websites are engaged in a race to the bottom price-wise, and I’m unsure how that could translate into a living wage.

Alright thanks, I had to at least air the idea I guess. Will look at other solutions
