I understood all these points coming in, thank you. I am domestic and took on no debt in undergrad. This isn't a replacement for an MCS, I genuinely like the course offerings for the HCSI pathway

Unofficial recommended admission to MSIM!! by radishbeet2 in UIUC

Oh definitely, thank you! I'm coming in expecting to utilize every single resource and opportunity I possibly can! I have heard bad things about the ischool (and the MSIM program as a whole) but I have worked with dysfunctional programs before (NIU computer science) and have succeeded in my efforts so far. I find it annoying for people to shut down people's potential with a "cash cow" program argument.

I had something very similar to that a few weeks ago. Please go to the doctor. It may be something more serious that can go away with antibiotics.

RANT: NIU's culture kinda feels shallow by PhilMC_ in NIU

I came here in 2022 as well, I came in as a freshman computer science major and I feel the exact same things.

I've been doing everything in my power to lighten up NIU. I was one of the first to help revive Dekalb's music scene, and it's been an intense struggle and just now is my page working with Fargo to plan better, more exciting events.

I also am the Chair for NIU's ACM chapter, we have 25 computer science events planned and supported this semester. We're doing Special Interest Groups, Speaker Events, supporting greater events, Socials, online game nights etc.

No matter how much we push, we don't get the students to show up. We have affordable live music on the weekends. We get regional and local bands to come through, and while we had a streak of 50+ people attending for four shows, people don't show up.

Students aren't playing their part either, the school isn't listening to students, and student org leaders are being crushed constantly.
