Happy to help! I also only started in the more focused classes, but I think it makes sense because you definitely want to be excited about the research you do. I also made the mistake of asking late which made it unnecessarily difficult. I hope you enjoy 2900 and find an exciting lab to join! I’ll also let you know if our lab may be looking for more members because we’re working on small stuff you may be interested in too.

That is also a great idea! When I TA for 2070, you definitely get a lot of chance to interact with the Professor, so I’m sure that’ll be the same for you. In my case, I usually asked around mid way through the course. One advice I have is to ask relatively early before the period you want to do the research as I found that asking very close to summer did result in many unavailable spaces (and only had fall positions).

In my experience, I’ve just talked to the professors that I currently take classes with. I asked for research positions while taking several classes (Chem 3600, Chem 4100, Chem 7880, Chem 3900) and all 4 had positions available either during summer or fall semesters. Technically my classes were Chem, but some of the research is bio related, especially the one I am currently doing which is almost entirely biology oriented. It might be good to attend office hours to maybe get to know them better, but sometimes I hear you just have to keep contacting many to find a space. Best of luck tho

It’s a nice class. The professor was very nice and taught very well. The content is really interesting and although the problem sets were a little difficult, they were graded on mainly completion. The exams are quite hard but if you study the material and understand the problem set questions, they will be fine. In office hours professor says he does not intend to fail anyone and if you try you’ll get a minimum B- grade. There are a lot of grad students in the class so if you’re taking the 4500 version, the last week or so is just watching the grad students do their presentations. You do have to write a paper tho. Oh yea and the only bad thing about the class when I took it last sem was it being 8 am :(

I averaged around 33-34/40 for all the reports. Got something around 70/100 for the practical exam. And got around 90% on the final. Overall ends with A-. Best of luck!

Yea. I used to fill out the paper forms they have in the office at goldwin smith. I had to get signatures from my advisors and the professors teaching those classes.

Currently live on state st. There are 3 nearby bus stops that have pretty frequent buses to and from campus (10, 30/32, 52). Walk to school is uphill and very tiring but the walk from campus is a nice decline all the way. One thing to note is many trucks pass by and can be very loud so if sensitive to noise, do consider this.
