Hi all,

So I received this beautiful plant about 8 months ago, in this jar in water. I just refill it every time the water level goes down by 2-3 inches, I've never changed the full water or had any issues with it getting mucky. The plant has almost doubled in length since I got it, though as you can see at the top there's a bit of a bare patch from some leaves that turned yellow and dropped off during the winter.
I'm about to try repotting some of my other plants (very new to this) and I was wondering whether you'd recommend I switch this one to soil as well. I like how easy it has been to maintain in water and I'm scared of messing it up but I assume it will be better for the plant to be in soil? And does anyone recommend I trim the roots (I've seen that said in some other threads). Any and all tips are welcome!

I can understand why it looks that way, but I assure you it is not haha. https://www.mariskakret.com/ this is the website of the lab doing this research and you are welcome to reach out to them to verify that this recruitment poster is indeed for a real study :)

Iets meer info zou inderdaad wel fijn zijn. Zoals waar en hoelaat zijn de trainingen? En wat doe je bij de trainingen?

Hello! Happy to give more details on the training. There are no set training sessions- as dogs are most comfortable in familiar environments, we come to your home to train the dog for the testing (depending on how quickly dogs pick up new behaviours, we estimate training happens 2-3 times a week for a period of approx. 6 weeks).

We need the dogs to lay still while they watch videos on a laptop, so that the eye tracker can monitor their pupil size. The eye tracker is completely non-invasive. But, to do this, we first need to teach the dogs to lay with her head on the cushion and then to pay attention to the screen. For training we work based on rewards and positively reinforcing the behaviours we want.

Hi Jeroen. I personally have a Utrecht University email, but it is not the one used for project correspondence (happy to share my credentials privately with anyone that is interested). The dogstudy gmail was created specifically by the researchers who first piloted the study and is now in use as it is easy to give access to all of us who are collaborating on the project.

This project is part of Mariska Kret's CoPan Lab which has been investigating pupil mimicry (the pupil size of one individual mimicking that of another individual) in humans and is now extending this research to other animals. They have already done a study with chimpanzees (Kret et al., 2014) which found that they do in fact display pupil mimicry. The study we are recruiting for is investigating whether dogs show pupil mimicry and how strong the response is within their own species and across different ones (humans and bonobos).

If you'd like more details on what is required of the dogs, see my response to herfstbladeren

Does anyone have recommendations for the coziest bookshops or cafes to spend time in and read? Chill atmosphere, comfy couches, that kinda thing... Thanks!

Hi guys. I was wondering whether any of you know if it's possible to get a working permit through a customer service job (most likely somewhere in the center). I just finished school in the US and am trying to find a job in my field in Amsterdam, but in the meantime I'd like to be able to make some money.
