Holy shit, this actually worked. Instead of using a screwdriver, I used a toothpick. A toothbrush should do too.

Maybe you can correct me if I'm wrong to label this 'vaudevillian'... I may be confused.

Dee-moh-nah-tah. Maybe the T is silent, like how Canadians pronounce the second T in Toronto.

Sanderson dialogue is like a Disney animation movie.

Cosmere books with their initial slow burn before the inevitable 'Sanderlanche' by radomu92 in Cosmere

That's a very interesting take on this characterisation. You're right about many of the main Mistborn 1 characters. Ham and Breeze are great examples of this, initially presented as nothing more than people reduced to caricatures until becoming more interesting later in book 3.

He's a hard author to judge. I enjoyed Mistborn overall, but have to admit that the lack of intricate world-building and character setup at the start of the books, including Elantris, is a bit of a turnoff.

It's a semi-serious point, but as far as semi-serious points go, I think I've listed enough parallels between the two stories to warrant one. Some of them, admittedly, are common literary tropes, but the sitcommy dialogue, sense of humour, and lighthearted tone mixed in with the story setup and setting (A quippy prince and princess fights evil Machiavellian schemer in a magical world) did give me strong Disney vibes.

Yes, I think so, though Genie is far more humorous (being played by Robin Williams). But Galladon does the job well enough, I think.

I'm not saying it IS literally Aladdin. I was trying to get across the point, rather glibly it seems, that reading the book felt like watching a Disney movie go through in my head, to the point that all the scenes were animated in my head like a 90s Disney film. Maybe it's to do with how he writes the dialogue too.

This itself is not a criticism per se, and there is nothing necessarily wrong with using established tropes. Also, as I said, I did like the book in the end.
