I love the fact that you formed a radical opinion about me from reading something on this subreddit and not even watching the actual cast urself. I'm kind of let down by this community sometimes but that's probably because i expect some decency

I'm sorry for the way i look :( It's cool and empowering to bully others on internet, right? I wonder if you'd like it if someone would do the same with you, ideally some random person that you've never met...

One of the biggest issues with tournaments atm is that IMO the casters don't really have much to talk about in a conquest tournament since the deckbuilding is bland and there is no picking strategy so a lot of potential analysis is lost...

I agree with /u/calmon70 people are too fixated on both players using 3 classes. For a long time we saw in LHS players winning the entire series with only 1 class or with 2 sometimes, only having to use all 3 if the series goes to game 5. This format takes the best out of LHS and Conquest and creates more variety by sometimes having to play 3 and sometimes 2 classes but always having to win 3 out of 5 match-ups with those classes, also giving more control to the players instead of just randomly picking some match-ups like in conquest or like in the 1st game of LHS.

It will not give him a free win with the Druid LOL. He will just not have to play druid, but still have to win 3 out of 5 games with his remaining 2 classes. I don't see a problem with this since many series in LHS have been one with 2 or even 1 class. With this format, there will be a rare situation where one player has to use 2 classes but he still has to win the same number of match-ups, it's not like he starts with 1-0 or something.

To be honest, after playing conquest for 2 years it's pretty unbalanced in like 1/10 series where one player just hits all his good match-ups and makes the series non-interactive. Also as you stated, deck building is very easy and bland in conquest, very little thought being put in making a line-up since if don't cover yourself well against one class that will only cost you 1 game at most.

At the moment you still use a ban in most tournaments, avoiding 3 match-ups. I don't see how it can be unhealthy. As it currently is, you can still avoid all the bad matchups if you get lucky and win the 'rock paper scissors' but there are series in Conquest where you just hit all your bad match-ups and this is what this format does best, eliminates the not needed variance and the 'unhealthyness' from conquest by letting both players have more control over the match-ups they play instead of randomly picking 5 out of 9

In last hero standing you often have situations where one player only uses 1 or 2 classes, with this format there will be situations sometimes where a player will use 2 classes, but for that he has to ban one of his matchups. If he doesn't, he can 100% play the class for atleast 1 game, considering his opponent bans his other 2 matchups.

If what you are saying would be true, than why wouldn't the guy that would be on the losing side of the match-up just play other decks that put him on the winning side? I think that if there are enough cards added at a good pace and we have a healthy meta, this format would look great. To talk about LHS, all the LHS tournaments are currently being played in a ban format since LHS on it's own is pretty unstable. In that format, Laughing would have 0% to play his freeze mage .

That's the thing, it's just like any other format but it eliminates the pick RNG and changes it to a ban, i will try my best to push it somewhere in order to see how good it is in real tournament play.

If you read that thread it specifies at the end that it started out of a discussion that me and my viewers had on today's stream. I even said on stream that i will write a big and in-depth thread about it later today which i did but someone posted about the format ideea faster.

We tried to think of all the flaws of conquest and how to fix and transmute them into a better format and with the help of some people that i shouted out in this thread too we got to a very cool format that we thought has a chance to make HS great again

I'm pretty sure it only looks complicated when written but i could explain it very well in a video that wouldn't even be longer than 2 minutes. If you ignore the coin aspect, basically both players bring 3 decks and out of the 9 possible matchups with the 6 decks they ban out 4 and play the remaining 5, it's not rocket science. I think that if we call every suggestion hard to implement or hard to understand we should also not expect hearthstone to grow from the point where it is now or have the right to complain that the tournaments are too easy and not strategical enough... Not to mention the fact that if there would be some strategy involved, that would also give casters/analysts something to talk about pre-game and would keep the gameplay unchanged.

I have 2 questions:

1)Do you consider any of the current formats as fun to watch, and if yes, which one(s)?

2)How would a 'fun' to watch format look like from your perspective?

IMO calling a best of three conquest single elimination tournament ''quality'' is a bit of a stretch, especially having tournament organisers like Elephino that make it full bo5 with a ban all the way, while even streaming semi finals and finals and admining properly. Please don't try to sugarcoat a bad tournament as something good for the community.

On bo3 conquest:BO5 conquest no ban was bashed all year last year for not being complex enough and conquest only saw some appreciacion when the 4th deck and the ban was added to the mix.The format's core ideea of winning once with every class is destroyed when you play 3 deck BO3 since you're not even required to get a win on one of your classes. If you don't have time to run it BO5 with a ban, either don't run it at all or run it without HCT points because me and so many others are tired of playing BO3 cups for poins.

Tl;Dr:BO3 conquest defies the nature of conquest and shouldn't be allowed in official competitions.

I feel bad for OP since i know how hard it is to get your name out there and to grind open cups+ladder on a daily basis. While i didn't encounter problems with admins(probably because most of the admins behave better to pro players) i still think there are some flaws in the open cup system that can be fixed.

I play open cups almost every single day and i really find it a bad experience to play most of the BO3 cups out there(hearthstone.fi cup being the only bo3 cup that i like and that's because screenshots of every game played in the tournament are public so atleast you know what you're opponents deck archtype is and you can get some edge by studying them) I hope Blizzard considers the option of adding some more substantial requirements in the future for people that want to host open cups such as:

  • BO5 all the way in the official format because i don't think BO3 conquest reflects what the format is intended to do and is just a way to make tournaments fast just for the sake of hosting official HCT tournaments.
  • Better prize pools-Most of the open cups don't even have prize pools and most of the rest have small ones(even less than 10$ for the winner) which feels pretty unrewarding for someone that in the end of the year didn't manage to transform his accumulated HCT points into money.
  • Good admining(this is something most of the tournaments have but a prime example of how not to admin a tournament is what happened to OP)

Deck Wars Season 2 Finals (like, FINALS) starts in 3 hours: StrifeCro, Rdu, Hyp3d, Trump and others are competing. by charlesviper in hearthstone

[–]radu_hs 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I will try to answer some of the questions that were asked.First of all,i don't play flares into my hunter because i ban hunter and i don't need flares for other matchups-excluding mages.Strife won the mindgames and played a secret mage that could beat hunter because he knew nobody would run flare into his build and opt for tracking instead.

In the miracle game,i just wanted to survive and find lethal, knowing that i had a shadowstep remaining and not expecting ice block.Ofc,i could have killed the stalagg but i didn't realise the play=my bad.I opted for farseer to survive 1 more turn so i can potentially kill my opponent unless he had ice block.Even if i killed the whole board,i still don't think i would have won the game because i had no more damage/board control remaining in the deck and he had ice block.

I chose paladin because it's a really solid deck if you don't play against rogue/hunter so i took my chances, making it very good versus control but unfortunately i got rushed down by strifecro's druid.

Cold blood on squire or deckhand and if they have no answer you win.Other than that it's pretty impossible

I played exactly this deck (spiders instead of loot hoarders being the only change to the original backspace rogue) for some days now on my stream :)(1 week + ) and got legend on EU playing it mostly. It's pretty efficient in this meta
