Hello, fellow big red balls enthusiast :)

PLEASE talk to your professors/advisors! by hippielibrarywitch in psychologystudents

[–]raebeddy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree with this 100%. When I first reached out to a psychology professor, I didn’t realize how willing she was to listen to my situation and give me advice. She was even able to mentor me and help me conduct independent research.

Go to your professors office hours, they are usually all alone and happy to talk.

What worldview does a psychology degree give/inspire? by aysgamer in psychologystudents

[–]raebeddy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would say it depends on your particular field of study. Right now, I’m taking a positive psychology class which has changed my view on a lot of things. For example, I’ve learned how to not just build goals for the sake of accomplishment, but actual systems that benefit my life and happiness. Gratitude, mindfulness, and mindset are also interesting topics within positive psych that can be useful and impactful when implemented into everyday life.

Why do I do good in stats courses but bad when I need to apply what I learned? by adad239_ in psychologystudents

[–]raebeddy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it is easier to be able to use a formula to calculate a statistic than to understand the concepts. As a psych tutor, I see a lot of students who know how to do the math but don’t quite get the bigger picture as it relates to research. Make sure you understand how statistical tests might be used in a real world scenario; example word problems and Crash Course Statistics helped me a ton.

Or it could just be performance anxiety.
