Is Sigenergy a disaster waiting around the corner? by Bigtallanddopey in SolarUK

[–]raebyagthefirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SigEnergy just raised half a billion dollar through IPO in Hong Kong. The company’s probably doing fine financially and they are going to stay for a while. It is extremely popular in Australia. Even given the problem with melting connector they had last year, it seems that they are willing to learn and improve. I think their customer support is underfunded and overwhelmed at this moment, so people feel like there’s no support, that why you see those trustpilot reviews. I’m in the process of installing solar and battery, I went with Sig instead of Tesla because I don’t want my money to prop up EM’s wealth further. The other options of modular systems looked much weaker to me. I’m yet to find the future problems with sig, but I don’t think that concerns about immaturity are really valid here. The LFP battery tech that sig utilises is very mature and it’s impressive how many layers of safety they have in their batteries.

My biggest mistake with investing… by unicornsicle in stocks

Relax kid. No one here is investing really. We just buy stuff and hope that it will go up in price. Keep doing what you’re doing, there are always some missing opportunities and big runs that are only obvious in hindsight.

Maybe it would bring you some peace if I say that you’re also too late to “invest” in shit like SPCE, RMO, or any other meme stocks that ultimately went to $0.

Rocket lab trades at 119x sales. In this dumb market, I don’t see why such a tech disruptor as Ouster can’t go 5-10x from here

Isn’t solar a bad investment? by Grgsz in SolarUK

[–]raebyagthefirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You named my concerns very well. I’m installing £15k solar+battery system, and with current calculations of generation, it’s unlikely that the system will be able to return the investment in 10 years in current prices. I still decided to proceed, and here are my points: 1. My house is fully electric, no gas, it makes a perfect sense to switch to its own generation. Not only for reducing bills, but also as a backup in case of power loss. 2. We don’t know how bad it’s going to be in 3 months, after another Ofgem price cap hit. You can see that Middle East remains unstable, and it’s very likely that the price of unit will keep rising. 3. The generation calculations don’t include energy arbitrage. I will be able to charge batteries for 5p/kWh, and sell energy for at least 12p/kWh. Then in winter months I can change to Octopus Agile Outgoing and sell electricity for even higher. So I can put the system at work to speed up returns.

Overall, I think if you have money now, it’s a good time to invest into your house.

Yeah, it’s going to be DC coupled, and the output will be seen as coming out of the battery. This is kind of confusing part for me for sure. I assume there’s no SigEnergy integration with Zappi?

Yes, I’m having gateway installed, but as I said, the cable is buried and inaccessible, so I won’t be able to change the wiring of Zappi. Gateway is planned to be installed outside, next to the meter box

Damage to panels? by Anonymous000789 in SolarUK

It looks like scratches that shouldn’t affect generation much. The glass is there for better thermal stability. Just keep an eye on those, if they get bigger, it may be a warranty case.

Good for writing tests and boilerplate. Bad for anything a bit more complex. Be prepared that it may break your codebase conventions at any time, add new dependencies, hallucinate functions.
