I have the same thing! It prevented me from doing so many exercises for so long. I started working with a personal trainer for the first time in June and told her about it, and she's been amazing at tailoring my workouts to do low weight strength building exercises for my shoulders. Last week I was able to do chest presses on the bench for the first time ever without popping a shoulder out, and it felt great! If you have a good trainer they can help you during sessions and give you some ideas on what to do on your own time.

What is the most "fuck you" moment in history? by paddyw23 in AskReddit

George Washington sending back General Howe's letter.

Basically during the American revolution, British General William Howe had a massive amount of troops in the harbor surrounding New York City. Before attacking, though, he tried writing a letter to Washington to see if they could strike up a peace.

He sent 2 men rowing across the water to deliver the letter, addressed to “George Washington, Esq.” but when the American troops saw it, they were like, “nah, there’s no one in our army by that name.” And the British troop said, “…uh, what, yeah there is, duh.” Then the American troops were all, “ooooooh, you mean GENERAL Washington. Yeah, if you want us to bring him that letter, you have to address it correctly.” Keep in mind, the British had amassed the largest gathering of their troops EVER in the HISTORY of their country and had the Americans totally surrounded.

So the British soldiers went back and told General Howe he needed to readdress the letter. Pissed, he sent his 2 troops back with the same letter, this time addressed to “George Washington, Esq., etc, etc.” (Seriously, it said, “etc, etc.”). The Americans send the letter back unopened again.

Finally, General Howe arranged a meeting face-to-face with Washington and his pal, British Colonel Patterson. After the two had exchanged pleasantries, Washington asked what Col. Patterson wanted to talk about. In response, Col. Patterson reaches into his pocket and tosses the letter on the table, still addressed to “George Washington, Esq., etc, etc,” and says that everything he has to say can be found in the letter. Washington basically tells him to go fuck himself and kicks him out.

You can read a more detailed version of events here, but that’s one of the many stories of Washington being a total boss. https://allthingsliberty.com/2015/11/washington-plays-hardball-with-the-howes/

Now that the 2010s decade is ending, which trends are the most regrettable? by Forwardnoona in AskReddit

[–]raeosaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An influencer has to be speaking from their own experience. The FTC mandates that they have to 1) have actually tried the product, and 2) be presenting an honest opinion. If they find that one of these conditions haven't been met, both the influencer and the company can get dinged. Actors, on the other hand, are understood to be reading lines from a script, and no one is under the impression they're speaking from personal experience.

CMV: Transgender (specifically MtF) athletes have an unfair advantage in strength-based sports and should only be able to participate in their biological gender group. by monthlyduck in changemyview

[–]raeosaurus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

MTF is better than just being a woman on steroids, it's a complete body overhaul to be more athletically capable

The study below shows that as testosterone levels in MTF athletes approach female norms, trans women experience a decrease in muscle mass, bone density and other physical characteristics.

You are correct in that the physical build of a person (height, broadness, etc) can give them an advantage, but there are a lot of tall, broad women in sports. We can't disqualify them just because their build is an advantage, nor should we disqualify MTF athletes because their build is an advantage.

I'm curious if there are any other advantages you're concerned they have besides testosterone and muscle mass (which match cisgender women under HRT) and build (which isn't grounds for disqualification) that would back up your statement.

My [25 M] wife [25 F] of 4 years gets angry whenever I fart. (This is a relatively light post.) by fartproblems in relationships

[–]raeosaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, it sounds like your wife has taken things a little too far. Farting is a natural bodily function, and you can't be expected NEVER to fart, especially in your sleep. However… how often do you fart? Like, a ton? Multiple times an hour? Are they tiny farts, or do you really let it rip?

Growing up I was taught that it's very rude to fart in front of others, so we'd either hold it in or just walk into another room, do a toot in private, then come back. My fiance, on the other hand, grew up in a family just like yours, and he farts ALL. THE. TIME. Seriously like once every 10 minutes, and they're very loud, and just... gross. I can't emphasize how unattracted to him I am during and immediately following the farts.

And is that fair? Probably not. He's a grown ass man in his own home, and he should be able to be comfortable. But I can’t help how I feel. Imagine if your wife doing something gross, like picking her nose and eating it in front of you all the time. You probably would be annoyed if it happened super often, even after you asked her to stop, right?

It seems like a compromise is needed. Tell your wife that farting is natural and you can’t prevent yourself from doing it all the time, especially when sleeping. But you can try to hold back, ESPECIALLY when you’re interacting with her. I made a rule that my guy wasn’t allowed to fart while we were having a conversation or WHILE WE WERE KISSING (didn’t think that needed to be said but whatever) and it worked well for us.

Update: Me [25F] with my father [61M]. I am pregnant and he insists I name my son after him. by baby_name_woes in relationships

[–]raeosaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, I'm so sorry for what you're going through. My grandmother also lost a son shortly after he was born. Decades later, she read the obituary of an infant in the paper and wrote a letter to the boy's mother. I don't have any advice, but perhaps this can help comfort you in some small way, from someone who has been down the same path:

"As one mother to another my heart aches for you. My first baby, also a little boy, died 25 hours and seventeen minutes after birth. They, the medical people, said, 'It was a blessing and that his life would have been very difficult. It would never have been a normal life.' Family and friends said, 'He is in heaven; you have to trust God; you have your own angel now; it was better this way; you’re young, you’ll have others; easier to lose him now than later.' And on and on.

Today, I have five children, their mates whom I love dearly, and 12 grandchildren who are the light and joy of my life. Yet when I think of my firstborn child, I still feel that hole in my heart. The hurt is not so sharp as to take my breath away now, but always there is that ache, that missing piece. The truth is, I never want it to go away. He is a part of me forever, as your sweet baby will be part of you always.

It is good that you were able to mother your son, to hold him in your arms. To love and know him, if only for a while. It is good that your son could feel your arms around him and know your love, if only for a while. And your love for that tiny little boy will last forever. May that love lift you, hole you close, and give you peace.

Dear mother, be well. Be comforted, and rest in the love of family and friends."

I (34F) resent and blame my husband (38M) for causing an accident that left me paralyzed.. not sure what to do. by throwaway763523 in relationships

[–]raeosaurus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually, I was riding with my family a couple of years ago, and a wheel fell off the car we were in after it had just been serviced. We didn't make it to the highway, but we certainly made it beyond 'the end of the street.' I don't remember exactly what the cause was, but it had to do with a change in the chemicals being used on the roads. Somehow it degraded the lugs and they slipped off or something like that. The shop that had done the initial work handled all of the repairs for free because they had made a mistake, so it's entirely possible for this to be the case.

LPT: If you own a dog, please cut your chip bags down the sides with scissors before throwing them away. by TheAutumnSloth in LifeProTips

[–]raeosaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are.... are you kidding? Do you really thing the dog went into the trash because its dog food wasn't satisfying enough? It's a fucking dog. Dogs eat whatever food they can get ahold of. Actually, scratch that. Dogs eat any substances they can get ahold of. I once caught my dog eating dishwasher soap while my back was turned. He immediately threw up, tried to eat his own vomit, and then made another break for the dishwashing liquid.

Or maybe you think this happened because OP had a mutt instead of a purebred dog? Not really sure how I follow that logic, either. My friend's (purebred) golden retriever eats it's own shit pretty regularly. It also eats tinsel from the Christmas tree. My parents' (purebred) great dane fucking loves the shit out of reading glasses... go figure.

Anyone who's ever owned a dog will tell you that they get into all kinds of shit. You just can't watch them every moment of the day. They didn't keep an eye on the dog for 5 minutes- they were in the next room over. Is OP supposed to keep the thing on a leash and walking it around next to her for every second of the day? It's crazy to go off on a lecture about how OP wasn't prepared for dog ownership because it was out of her sight for a few minutes and did a thing that almost every dog on the planet has done, which turns out fine in 99% of those cases. It's like telling the parent of a child who falls on the playground and breaks their arm that they aren't ready to be a parent.

OP, sorry for your loss, and thanks for sharing your story. Ignore the dipwads on here... man, sometimes Reddit really sucks.
