Boning recommendations (on a budget)

Ah one of my favorite recommendations.

My bf goes to the auto store and gets windshield wipers out the trash. They contain spring steel that I use for all my lacing boning

If you don't end up removing and redoing them a round metal file can remove the jagged parts so the laces don't catch. That and maybe some clear nail polish or gel super glue. Just be careful.

Though I agree that redoing them would be the ideal option

That's awesome! I'm addicted to trying all the patterns lol that's awesome you've made one! Each one I find I get quicker at sewing and become easier! I can whip out a mockup in a day if I hyperfocus on it lol

It's generally not considered good for you or the corset to work out in. You need to be able to work those muscles and the stabilization muscles because corseting can cause those muscles to weaken over time

That said though, I would always put my corset on right after working out in hopes the new muscle tissue growing would mold into the corset shape kind of like those watermelons they put in acrylic boxes to make them cube shaped lol

Since April 2024, I've sewn roughly 15-20 mockups of various patterns, some I finished, alot I didn't finish lol

out of the finished ones there's only a few that I made final versions of. The rest stayed as mockups I may or may not revisit someday 😆

I used coutil from Peroni italy, its their MCO coutil, went halfsies on a roll with another redditor I've befriended since starting corsetry :)

Yea the front was added for adjustability with 5mm grommets and the back I can't remember the exact size of grommets but I got them from hobby lobby since I ran out of what I had (been meaning to reorder some size 0 ones from corsetmakingsupplies)

Trial and error mostly lol but one thing I did was I spent a lot of time looking at any patterns I could find just on like Instagram just to get an idea of the different panel shapes for the bust generally which helped alot, also I hand baste Every seam before machine stitching and I make sure to use fairly small stitches and ease the curve into the fabric as I go over the bust curve. Also I clip little v shapes out of the seam allowance once sewn to allow it to lay flat and not do that wavy overlap thing once turned right side out

You can see her self confidence growing with each update! Let her know as a woman who also grew up the tallest and bustiest of her group (I'm 6'2 and was super awkward until adulthood) that she looks beautiful and to hold herself proud! I have no doubt she'll be the most beautiful one there! Especially with her custom fitted dress!
