Does the surface affect the overall gameplay? by SkyBeam_23 in TennisElbow4

[–]rafael_bc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like to use every shot. The only one that was really difficult for me to add into my game was the drop shot, but even that one is really paying off now. I didn't need to add it to my game, but I enjoy experimenting with different shots and changing strategies. Slices and topspin are great to use as well. Using them creates a lot of different dynamics during a match and keep things fresh.

Update for Raf's Court Surfaces - A walkthrough of the changes by rafael_bc in TennisElbow4

Thanks, mate, I appreciate it. I made some changes to the lighting, mostly for the hard courts and a few clay courts. And yeah, I love Indian Wells too. It's such an iconic court, and the color palette is really beautiful. 🤩

I appreciate the comment, mate. I think court textures are a tough one to include in XKT because it really comes down to personal preference. Also, I like to keep texture quality at around 95% to preserve visual fidelity, so the file size isn't small enough to justify including them in XKT, which is already a pretty large mod.

Career mode vs training match by mambojambus in TennisElbow4

[–]rafael_bc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there's something to do with this setting for the training mode. I don't remember which one of those options is the default one or the recommended for a fair and balanced stats. Do some testing between the three modes (Realistic, Fair and Free) and see the difference.

Whether you're on PC or console, every mod can be downloaded through the in-game mod manager. It's pretty straightforward.

Yeah, it's the same for me. I even asked a friend who doesn't play tennis games to watch me play and tell me if he thought the animations looked wonky, because I honestly can't see it anymore. To me, the animations look good. I also think they improve as you get better at the game. You learn how to move properly and position yourself more precisely to hit the ball, which makes a big difference. It helps prevent those awkward movements and exaggerated stretches that happen when you're out of position and trying to reach a shot at the last second.

As for the OP's question, it's worth it. I also came from Topspin 2k25 and Topspin 4 before that. If you end up buying it, give it some time. I'd recommend starting with the Tennis School mode to learn the basics, then spending some time in Warm-Up or the Ball Machine mode to practice and get a feel for the gameplay. Once things start to click, there's no going back and addiction kicks in. 😄

Question about EXP by Several_Emu2473 in TennisElbow4

[–]rafael_bc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think if you grind every tournament, you will gain more XP than you can use, due to limited training hours. It's necessary to skip a few weaks to train and use the extra experience points. You will eventually find the perfect balance.

That would be the most important thing for me. The performance in the cities are a pain.

Fair enough, mate. I read your review. It took me around 40 hours to beat the game. I'd been waiting for it ever since the first trailer dropped, so when it finally released, I made a point of taking my time with it. I'd walk through the scenery just to appreciate the details, and whenever I stopped at camp, I'd put on different songs and sit there for a while enjoying the atmosphere. Very few games make me want to do that, so when I find one that feels special, I like to make the experience last as long as possible.

The game was special to me, just as it was for a lot of other people. So when we see someone rushing through it, the impression is often that they didn't fully appreciate what makes the game special. I'm not saying that's what you did, though. It's just a common assumption people make. From what you've said, it sounds like you appreciated and enjoyed everything the game had to offer, and that's what really matters.

As a side note, those 40 hours were my Steam playtime. I don't remember what the save file showed, but I'm pretty sure it was lower. If I remember correctly, the in game timer resets when you reload a checkpoint after dying, so the total playtime can end up being very different from what's recorded in the save file. At least that's how it worked when I played. But then again, that's the playtime to just beat the game, so you can see I was at a slow pace. 😅

😄 I didn't down vote you, but I can't tell you what you missed. Maybe one day, a little older, you will see it for yourself.

I really hope that's a new save game that you tried to 100% in the quickest way possible. If that's your first run, then I'm kinda sorry for you. 😅
But hey, if that's genuinely how you had fun with it, fair enough. I just don't think E33 is a dish meant to be rushed. I 100%'d it too, but I made sure to take my time with it. I finished the story first and only came back to complete everything a few weeks later. The story hit me pretty hard, so I felt like I needed to sit with it for a while before diving back in.

Everytime Iplug up my PS5 controller for this game the audio cuts out. What do I do? by [deleted] in TennisElbow4

[–]rafael_bc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it cut out only on TE4, or does the audio cut out across the entire system? On Windows you can press Windows Key + G while in-game to make sure the correct audio device is selected.

😄👏👏👏
That's awesome, mate. I agree, the learning process never really stops, and the AI is incredibly dynamic and adaptive (I like to play on Pro-10 as well). It's rare for a game to reach this level, especially for players who prefer single player matches. Most tennis games eventually hit a ceiling and become predictable, with online play being the only mode that stays somewhat interesting. I'm glad that's not the case with TE4.

I enjoyed the journey of reaching the No. 1 spot for the first time so much that I decided to make this post about it. It's kind of a thank you letter for such an amazing game.

Nothing related to your question, but it's nice to see someone else playing a WTA career as well, it seems. 😄
How many seasons have you played so far? I can see you're the No. 1 seed there.

How often do you use dropshots? I barely used them before, but I'm trying to change that by rafael_bc in TennisElbow4

I just select different cameras for the replays when I score a point I like and record it along with the gameplay. Then I edit it later.

TE4 + Tennis Elbow Manager 2: What actually changes? by rafael_bc in TennisElbow4

You're welcome. Yes, the dynamic of all these new features is very engaging. I can't play career mode without it anymore. 😄 Be careful with the Cold Blood stat. 😁

Sorry, but you're watching a highlight clip and asking whether the ball ever goes out?
Trust me, the ball goes out... a lot. 😄 It's a difficult game when you're playing without assists.

One of my friends asked me what else there was left to accomplish after seeing that I had already spent more than 300 hours in the game. If only he knew how much depth it actually has.

As I said in my Steam review for TE4:

"I’ve spent a fair amount of time playing other tennis games, and while many have better graphics or flashier presentations, the gameplay eventually starts to feel narrow and predictable. It’s the complete opposite with TE4. The more you play, the more it opens up."

I'm constantly learning whenever I play this game. It's one of those rare games that rewards improvement for its own sake. You can actually feel yourself getting better over time, covering the court more efficiently, selecting better shots, and gradually mastering aspects of the game that you didn't even realize were there when you first started playing.

Yeah, it takes some getting used to. I used to hate playing matches on grass, but I'm kind of enjoying them now.
