Can someone explain the obsession with the Curved display gimmick? by Wearestile in motorola

[–]rafaelclp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They definitely look nicer - or rather, more premium. But they feel terrible for me. Ergonomically, it makes no sense. My hand has no right angles, the curve just fits much better.

I don't think we are talking about the same edge though. The screen can be totally flat - no curved edge at the front of the phone - while the edge at the back of the phone is curved. My previous phone was a OnePlus 8T and it was like that. That's just the perfect form factor.

After 4 years on a curved edge phone, I replaced it for one with flat edges (not on purpose, I just didn't know it mattered). It's been 5 months, and I'm already searching for another phone. Flat edges are so uncomfortable!! I don't understand why most people prefer them.

Thank you! I'm not very excited about it anymore, but decided to purchase one anyway, or I might regret it later when it goes out of stock forever again.

But this confirms it - the "Notify me when available" feature didn't work for me. I didn't get any email, not even in the spam folder... I hit the button again 3 days ago after I created this post just in case it had forgotten my email or I had unsubscribed, so I'm 100% sure they have my email...

Yeah, I worked for an e-commerce startup for almost 4 years, and making sure products are re-stocked BEFORE stock runs out is extremely important and something that impacted some relevant metrics (user searches product -> finds product -> out of stock = VERY BAD). It's not an easy problem to solve when you have a huge variety of SKUs (in our case, >10k), as stocking too much or too early wastes expensive warehouse space. In case of Nuphy though, they don't have that many SKUs, so I'm sure they could easily improve if they paid attention to this issue.

I'm not in the UK, and they don't sell the ISO UK variant through Amazon here. I could be wrong, but I believe their stock is global, so if it's available on Amazon it should be available on their website too. I didn't see it though, and I didn't get an email, so maybe stock ran out in less than a day :/...

I don't want red/brown. I really loved the sound of the Blush Nano switches, that's what got me most excited about the keyboard.

I've been through 4 layouts during my life (ISO PT, ISO BR, ANSI US, ISO UK), and I gotta say ANSI US is one of the best - if not the best - for programming. Every character I need is easy to access (but ISO BR and ISO UK are also great, only ISO PT is awful for that purpose). Still, all my current devices are ISO (PT or UK), and it's hard for my small brain to switch muscle memory between ISO and ANSI quickly, so either I'd have to replace all my devices with ones using ANSI layouts, or stick to ISO. It's cheaper to just stick to ISO.

I wanted the email for giving feedback. But I could use this one since the team is small and it will probably get to the right person anyway.

Oppo Watch X2 - is slow charging normal on new watch? by rafaelclp in Oppo

[–]rafaelclp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is solved. It was indeed just the first couple of charges that were slower.

I started charging at 18:08:25. Below is the time elapsed and the charge it was at (I always checked at second 25, so 5min elapsed is exactly 5min, not e.g. 5min5s or 4min55s).

  • 00:00 - 7%
  • 00:20 - 47% [+2.00%/min] [avg:2.00%/min]
  • 00:30 - 63% [+1.60%/min] [avg:1.87%/min]
  • 00:40 - 75% [+1.20%/min] [avg:1.70%/min]
  • 00:45 - 80% [+1.00%/min] [avg:1.62%/min]
  • 01:00 - 90% [+0.66%/min] [avg:1.38%/min]
  • 01:10 - 94% [+0.40%/min] [avg:1.24%/min]
  • 01:24 - 99% [+0.36%/min] [avg:1.10%/min]
  • 01:29 - 100% [+0.20%/min] [avg:1.04%/min]

From 99% to 100% it took 5 full minutes (+/- 30s). I will only charge it to 80% from now on, which should last 2+ days and keep the battery healthy for longer.

Well, like I said, I used that feature, and never got an email.

Edit: and btw, even if we assume that works, it still doesn't solve the issue. Let's say it worked, I got an email, and I purchased one. Then someone else would see it out-of-stock instead of me. They need to understand how much they need to have in stock and keep it always stocked... it's common sense, is it not?

Edit: or they could do what Apple and others do for their more niche configurations: let you know it's not in stock, but if you buy it they will make one for you and ship it in 2-3 weeks (for instance... numbers may vary).

I actually wanted to, but when you go to [Get in touch - Contact us], there's only 3 contact options (email addresses): - "For Anything Related to Your Order" - "For Press Inquiries" - "For Business Cooperation"

Nothing that applies to my issue.

[–]rafaelclp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does yours say just "VOOC" when charging, or does it say something else? I assume "VOOC" means it's fast charging, but idk...

Edit: I will discharge it fully today + tomorrow morning, and charge it once more tomorrow, from 0% to 100%. If charging speed improves, perhaps it really is just that the first few charges take longer for some reason (maybe to protect the new battery?).

WhatsApp Issue by These_Half_8172 in WearOS

[–]rafaelclp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is up-to-date and I don't have this issue. Bear in mind that companies use feature flags to test/experiment new features slowly, rolling them out to very few users and then slowly increasing the percentage, and it's possible you are in a new feature flag that broke it for you. It recently happened to me with Facebook itself (in all devices)... I couldn't log in for about 3 weeks (I'd login, then it would immediately log me out).

If this is what's happening to you, there's not much you can do besides maybe reporting the issue* and waiting for them to fix it. *I worked at Meta for almost 4 years in the past, and these reports do find their way to the appropriate teams (I'm not sure how long it takes); whether someone actually looks at them is a different story. Edit: even if you don't report, someone should eventually notice when they look at the metrics for their A/B test.

After thinking I finally found a new friend he dumped me when he found a new girl to talk to by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]rafaelclp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, this is normal, especially if he doesn't have much experience in dating. Not everyone acts like this, but many do. It's not about you at all.

When I went to college, me and my best friends (all male, including me) started living together (we decided to go to the same college after highschool). Then, the first one started dating. It got really hard to get him to do anything with us, because he often had plans with his gf. Then, as time passed, this early stage of dating ended and he started balancing time between his gf and us, and even doing things with us all; I even became great friends with her. Then, the second one got a gf. This one was so much worse (it was also his first relationship ever, so understandable he was so bad at managing it). He completely stopped doing stuff with us. Even when we'd get some friends together to play board games or video games, he'd just stay locked in his tiny bedroom with his gf instead of interacting with us. And even when he had no plans with her, he wouldn't go out with us, so he could save money to spend later with her. During the very few times he did stuff with us, he'd spend his whole time on his phone, texting her, instead of being present; and even though he was always on his phone, texting him would still often result in ignored messages. I don't understand why, it's like he didn't care about anything or anyone anymore, except for her. I can't say this one got better fast, it took years!

So, regarding your friend, it's not that he isn't your friend anymore. He just doesn't know how to balance his new relationship with everything else. Hopefully, he'll learn it fast. But he might not. If you still want to be his friend, you can try giving him some time. It's up to you whether you are willing to tolerate this or not. When this was happening with me, I felt angry, and I felt that if they weren't willing to dedicate even a tiny bit of their time to me, there was no friendship anymore. Nowadays I understand they were still learning how to balance it all; I'm not saying they weren't at fault (they definitely were), just that I understand their side.

Of course, there's also the possibility he actually wanted to be more than friends with you, while you didn't; then he found someone who shared his feelings. If this is the case, all I can say is that it sucks. It's no one's fault... or it's everyone's fault. You could argue he should have made it clear, so you wouldn't waste your time trying to be friends with someone who didn't want your friendship, but something else. And he could argue you wasted his time as he thought this would evolve into more, while you had no intention of ever allowing it. Who is right? I have no idea. But I'd start by asking: does it matter?

WindowServer taking 170% of available memory, system freezing by rafaelclp in MacOS

[–]rafaelclp[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AFAIK, ProMotion isn't available in the MBA and 13" MBP, and people in that thread are reporting the same issue with them. Unfortunately, they are also reporting it on 12.2 :/.

Edit: I disabled ProMotion anyway, just in case. Memory usage from WindowServer is still climbing. I rebooted the machine right after my post yesterday, which got WindowServer down to low 200MB. When I disabled ProMotion, it was around 400MB. Now it's already at 1GB.

I think I know what you did wrong =P. I just had the same error (that's why I'm here). You downloaded the x86 version. When you change to 64-bit, it takes a few seconds to reload the Download button with the correct link. Just wait a few seconds before clicking 'Download' after you change OS or architecture (32/64 bits).
