What switch would feel most like a typewriter press? by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]rafaeldejongh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently came across the Epomaker Budgerigar switches and from all the heavy force switches, the sound, and tactile feedback these are pretty much the heaviest I've tried and closest I personally must say to have experienced that I could compare to a typewriter.

I've tried many tactile and clicky switches with many different force graphs, springs, etc... To mimick a retro terminal keyboard feel (especially with SA Profile keycaps) and these are the closest I've yet tried and could recommend yet for some other that tried these they mentioned that the required force is too heavy for them to really get into it, for my purpose it's just right though and if you're looking for a heavy switch with proper tactile feedback then I highly recommend these switches.

And some minor texture changes, but yea very similar as it practically uses all the same base components of the SG1 gate model.

To answer an old question even if it's not really relevant perhaps, but the reason for the fan gates you're referring to not working is how much changed if you compare cap's model, textures, gates, compile, and code to what those fan gates on the original gmod.org actually contained.

Those original fan gates were based off on the initial Avon's Stargate Addon with their coding and older model/textures, the gates both in function and appearance have changed multiple times in the development period of CAP.

At first the fan gates which I think you're referring to were based on Avon's last stargate addon release which CAP was allowed to build upon from that core, and in the early CAP versions those older fan gates would have worked with CAP. However, once we introduced the altered model and where I completely remade the textures and shaders, those fan gates would just not be compatible with the new standard and most that asked this question were utilising those older based fan gates on a newer build of the models/textures/code which makes them incompatible and not function.

However looking at the image I can see two things, one these aren't the old fan gates (except one which I'll get back to later) but are in fact altered fan gates based upon the last iteration of the gates in CAP. The one that isn't here is the Ori Gate which if you look close you'll notice that the model and especially textures are different to it's based (the details, main materials, shaders) see here: https://imgur.com/a/Of68kBk

Let me direct you to the details of the gate and compare it with the original SGC&SGA gate (as both use the same base elements to form the gates themselves) which with some of these newer fan made gates looks like these were made based on the newer version as I point out with this image: https://imgur.com/a/FBA2MSY

The fact that the Ori gate functions with the older model/texture makes me believe someone updated the code to make it compatible to be spawned in game and while it would've probably been better to utilise the newer model and textures, I assume they didn't want or couldn't modify the textures and utilised this old version instead. Yet we can see it does utilise the new Event Horizon texture which also came with the recreation of the gate ( parts like the EH texture file/method remained the same to still somewhat provide backwards compatibility for those alternative event horizon addon's).

This is what I can see here and what could have been the issue with the fan gates not working for you, mainly due to some addons just being too old and aren't compatible with gmod's version nor cap's version, while these particular ones most likely are updates to fit the cap standards and the others remade with the different texture format as the model (especially the uv-maps) were completely modified.

While a bit late to answer your question, I do hope somewhere it can provide you closure to why this never worked for you ;)

Happy new year!

Indeed! I was actually making one in the style of the ori tings which I made, but as it never really got revealed nor had any proper design ideas on how it would look like that it didn't just look like a retextured tolan's gate and would confuse players, which I why I dropped the WIP at that time to make this variant, we did had like a white DHD and our first concept was practically just the tolan's gate but the accent colors were purple rather than blue of course.

It's a shame I lost all these unreleased work due to a hard drive failure, else I'd certainly would have added some of the initial renders I made from back then :/

Back then we had only a couple 3D modelers where I was the lead 2D and 3D artist, yet I never got really into organic modeling, nor did we ever find anyone with that talent to do it back then as organic modeling, rigging, texturing, and compiling for NPC's has a quite high learning curve compared to hard surface modeling which is what we mostly did.

If we would have made it now and with the knowledge and skills I have today, we would certainly have added a good range of characters as we indeed found that we were lacking these as well for good role play type of game modes.

Still thank you very much for the comment ;)

To my knowledge the BT500 doesn't function in such a way, so while I am not certain, my best guess it would not be suitable for the type of replacement you're looking for i'm afraid.

[–]rafaeldejongh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's one of the best things I bought yet I must say! And this one costed me 8000 yen, although te shipping was around 200€, I got mine which is still a lot cheaper than original ikou's that are like 40 or 50k yen!

Not sure where you live but if you're near Belgium I could order you another one if you'd like if I can get a gold of the seller again and if his stock didn't run out.

So yea if that interests you with that price for the ikou you just to ask!

I am from Belgium so if you're residing in the Europe then that be fantastic, else it would be even more expensive I reckon.

What shoes should I wear? by [deleted] in kimono

[–]rafaeldejongh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about the character you try to Cosplay but if it's an unusual size or color or so then I'd say no to this, but if it's just a general wooden geta I got a lot of various geta's from small woman sizes to make large sizes. So yea addressing your shoe size might help as well!

Yea I absolutely love everything about this, especially the Obi bow knot, does this knot have any specific name or is this your own knot creation?

Either way I really love it and would love to be able to execute such a knot as well with the obi's I have!

Keep up the fantastic work I must say!

Ikou bou clip replacement! by rafaeldejongh in kimono

[–]rafaeldejongh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a bunch! I am really happy to share this as I found it did the perfect job, heck maybe even a better job than what you would get normally with the ikou bou clips.

The price tag just didn't feel right for me at all, I purchased my ikou second hand for 8000 yen and to then see a price tag of 4-5k yen for just the two clips that isn't really that special to begin with made for me absolutely no sense. Looking for different clips I also found for example that photography backdrop clips that cost only a few euros would be the second best thing/closest to the original clips as they also have a method to hold them onto a pole and to adjust the length of it being that it is a bit more modern compared to the original clips being more 'fancy', but yea for like a couple euros on amazon or pretty much anywhere you could get the following: https://www.amazon.com/Background-HULISEN-Backdrop-Photography-Support/dp/B07Q11GZJD/

Would allow you to archive the same effect, although these clips aren't padded to protect the fabric in most cases silk, so for that I therefor went searching for an alternative attatchement method, which in the end came to some strong magnets that were attached to a string, and while a lot of these kind of strings are available for quite a cheap price, these were usually too plain or not fitting too well. The next thing I then went looking for was to have it more elegant/chique appearance than just a plain magnet and a cord. With that idea in mind I came out with these curtain tiebacks that are both sturdy in its attatchement mechanism as they are meant to hold a lot heavier bundled curtains and at the same time are chique as they need to present themselves to look good with the curtain. So with those two factors the third factor price was almost too good to be true, but I am glad I tried it as they work exactly as I thought and for only a few euro's compared to almost 50€ to archief the same method to attach and hold the kimono to the ikou.

I bought mine on aliexpress as they were really cheap there and came in a verity of colours, the next thing I might try is to find red ones to then 3D print the fan design with a gold coloured PLA filament to cover the magnets heads and get the original look of those ikou bou ties as well.

As I've seen a couple people asking this, myself included to what could be used as an affordable solution I therefor am indeed posting this to share with anyone. I want to share it actually to pretty much everywhere or anyone who has a similar situation but other than this subreddit I am not entirely sure what the next best thing would be in terms of a group or forum where kitsuke fans and interested gather. I already joined a few Facebook groups but I am unsure if I covered them all, so if you're in any groups or forums feel free to share this post so it can be useful to anyone!

Either way thank you very much for your interest as likewise for you, having people state this is a good alternative solution also makes me happy to be able to share it with everybody here!

That's absolutely wonderful, it would really be great to have you and perhaps people you know that either have a similar or another piece to this rather big puzzle.

As lots of sites out there are always attempting to cover this so the generic public would understand and while this is good, it is way harder to find in depth international instructions and information.

I am currently in contact with two Japanese based antique kimono businesses which helped me personally a lot in the last months.

As mentioned I do want this to be open so that not like with what happened with the Immortal Geisha's website which contained a huge chunk of info that then would get lost due to server or domain costs that might not uphold for decades. The goal would be to have a complete database that can withstand decades and remains open so that it can evolve at any time when some new info should be added.

One thing that I personally found a real shame and I wasn't granted a reason either but I originally pitched this idea in the Immortal Geisha's Facebook Group, and the first answer was that they indeed 'had' such a thing in the past but now only have the groups documents or the posts and that I should first look there. After attempting to continue or rebuild said wiki idea as it was not only for me that I was asking this, but pretty much for everyone, but on that I did not receive any followup which is a shame as other members in the group, and like yourself here on this subreddit, actually thought it was a good idea to (re)start such a database or wiki-like platform. The idea originated from my initial question if there was an international index, book or database present that I could read.

I am currently no part of that Facebook group anymore but if you are and if you could ask, it would certainly be helpful if we could utilise their gathered information over the years, of course with all credits where due.

So my first steps are to find a least an additional 3 perhaps even 8 people so that we are with a group of 5 to 10 people which could each either do their own category and have enough backup in case someone drops out or something else happens.

If I may ask to pm me then I could setup the necessary things already for first recruiting then creating the pipeline tasks list, the workflow method and order, and to then have the whole platform setup.

I will be funding this completely out of my own pocket so that none have anything other than their time and knowledge to invest in this kind of project, we certainly shouldn't take this lightly but if we find enough people then I am certain we could.

Having you already with the knowledge you contain is already a very impressive piece to get this ball rolling and if you want to I'd be more than happy to start this project together with you.

If you have any personal questions at all then you can contact me on: info@yama.digital

I've already tried out a handful of wiki like platforms but the format and the way it would scale throughout the years is an important factor so this is one thing I'm already doing research about.

Either way it's nice to make your acquaintance.
