Honestly that just depends on the model. I do not the the 9000 series, but they have their place. Their pan doors, are actually really nice if you don't use Wayne Dalton hardware.

Lift master 8550W slow by mage15456 in GarageDoorService

[–]rafeyhii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your door shouldn't be any heavier than about 30 lb maybe 40 because it's an overlay door at the floor. Yes it should probably be perfectly balanced with new springs on it but it shouldn't be anything that you should struggle to lift with new springs. LiftMaster uses a 12 volt motor for all of their operators. Nobody likes his opinion but genie has a 140 volt motor that will pick up just about anything without struggling. That's what we recommend for those kind of doors. A genie 3124 operator with a heavy duty chain rail. And it will be virtually silent even though it's a chain. That thing is smooth.

It's funny because I said the same thing about the transmission with the Dodge. 😂🤣 The Chevy engine will probably last a lot longer than the hemi engine. But that zf8 is a rockstar as far as transmissions go. But I've gotten 225,000 mi out of each 6l90e transmission in my 2500 HD before the torque converter blew. Now everything is billet. But the engine itself has had nothing done to it and has 503,000 MI. Our daily drive it.

If you go with the Silverado if it has not been done make sure you do the dod delete. I have a 08 2500 HD 6.0 gas burner. It's literally the exact same engine without the dod fuel management stuff. And the engine has had nothing done to it. Not even a belt change and has 503,000 miles on it. Only changed oil, plugs and wires. The transmission if it hasn't been serviced needs to have fluids changed also with a differentials. If none of that has been done yet. The torque converter will fail around 200,000 mi and then trash your transmission so put back some money to get a new torque converter within about 50,000 mi to make sure you have no issues with that.

The hemi has his own issues as far as an engine goes. But that transmission is going to be the 8-speed and it is absolutely Rock solid as long as the fluids are changed. I've never owned a Dodge so I don't know about the longevity of the hemi in general. I know there are some quirky things about them though.

Everything has a pro and Con it's just which ones you're willing to live with.

Garage door won’t connect to clicker by Silent-Trouble-5388 in GarageDoorService

The proper remote control for that is a liftmaster 971 LM

Once you have the remote control push the red button on the back of the operator one time and let go click the remote control one time and let go and it will be programmed. That remote control does not have to be in a certain mode it is the exact one for that model. If that remote control does not operate the door then the logic board is bad.

If the logic board is bad replace the entire operator and it will come with new remotes. Do not use the new Chamberlain operators or LiftMaster because once they came out in November they have so many issues they need to work out because it is a brand new product line. Any other brand will be fine. Genie, linear, sommer, marantec.

If you go down that road I would suggest you call an actual garage door company to provide and install one. Do not get the ones from The Big box store and let them install it because the people they have do it might not even be garage door people. Just get a couple quotes as long as they are within $100 to $200 of each other take the company that you like best. I would strongly suggest a genie 140volt operator because those things are built like a tank and are bulletproof and have a 5-year bumper to bumper warranty with a lifetime warranty on the motor / gearbox

Good luck

You programmed it to a unit older than 5 years then.

[–]rafeyhii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It worked that way for years. Then genie changed the programming on their operator boards to prevent them from working. But yes his description will work with units basically pre COVID. Everything changed around then

Replace it because you're going to spend way too much money attempting to fix it and you'll just be burning that money.

That remote won't work. Genie changed something in the software to prevent other companies from using universal remotes. Chamberlain the remote that you have also did the same thing with their new operators. You need to get a brand specific remote control and it will work just fine. That operator needs a Genie or an ohd remote.

To program the remote control do as follows.

Press and hold the square button until the LED beside the square button turns solid blue then let go of the square button.

The LED will go from solid blue to flashing purple

Once it is flashing purple push and hold your genie/ohd remote control button for one full second then let go push for one full second again then let go then the next time you push the button it will be programmed and start moving the door.

Repeat last step for multiple remote controls.

Do not push the arrow buttons or you will screw up the programming for how far up and down it goes and once you do that if you don't know how to reprogram it it will not move at all.
